I've been after one of these kits from the day it hit the stores in early 2012 but have never managed to get round to securing one.

I do already have a new built vintage Supershot so don't need to have another shelf queen of what is essentially the same model. And besides, the re-release does not come with the all important Technipower motor so is therefore just that little bit less special. Make no mistake though, it was still wonderful to see Tamiya bring this one back in *almost* it's complete glory.

I actually bought this kit to use as the foundation for a project to make a hopped-up-to-the-max 'Mega Hotshot' and intend to use SHY69's magnificent 'Hotshot EVOIII' creation..... http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=125472&sid=22039 .....as a reference point. I'm not quite sure in which direction I will go just yet but it will get as many modern hop ups & electronics as possible to turn it into my own modern take on the Hotshot.

I already have an original vintage Hotshot runner, completely standard with MSC and Mabuchi 540 motor. This sooped up version that I intend to create will be for the other end of the spectrum, to see how far the original design can be tweaked, although I guess SHY69 has already shown us that. :)

Another icon makes a welcome return. One of the most truly iconic box art images. Alas, presentation doesn't match the original kit. It's the parts that count though. The new name has grown on me. Return of that great looking body.... ...and the all important gold wheels too. No Technipower this time, unfortunately. Here's one I made earlier though. 2 SHY69's 'EVOIII'. A TRULY 'Super' Hotshot.

Very nice Andy....what motor setup do you plan to run? Are you going brushless?

Thanks Max. Definitely going brushless but not sure what set-up yet. Will need to be careful though as I believe the Hotshot transmission can only take so much power.

Cheers MAD-BEE. Yep, its been a great ride with all of the re-releases over the last 10 years and it shows no sign of stopping. Bring on the Monster Beetle....and the rumour is that the Nissan King Cab is next. That would be very sweet indeed.

Well, I will watch this space then. I suppose you could take the underguard from this kit and bolt it onto your runner HotShot and then get crazy with the build. Where Tamiya doesn't make the 'artistic' series of higher power brushed motors, they do make some pretty hot ones still. With a movie homage, you could take the 'super' off and make this a HotShots Part Deux.

Nice super ' hot ' shot ! , I put in a 5.5 brushless in my boomerang & that was fine & that handled well for on old gear box . So i find they are strong with bearing's all round of course ...

Cheers SHY....I might wait to see what Evo IV looks like then before commencing mine.

It'll take loooong time. Basically I'm adding Thorp ball diffs - which turned out to be a PITA since the drive cups don't match with modern universals...

And I'm gonna mod it to accomodate a 12T pinion (I melted the 19T brushed motor on the last race).

Rounding the gears in the gearboxes in order to free the drivetrain up.

And maybe using some other shocks since I had some leakage of oil.

Cheers

I think that maybe I will stick to the Evo III as my reference point then mate. IV sounds a bit complicated for me.
