At Thommo's suggestion (see link to previous entry at bottom of page) I got my hands on a proper Astute wing and have now applied the better decals and installed the new wing. Have to say it looks pretty much THE BUSINESS.

Have also since swapped in a TEU-302BK ESC and a Superstock BZ motor and the thing is a phenomenal runner. Anyone looking for a good 2WD runner / basher buggy don't hesitate to try a DT-02... although my recommendation would be to Astutify it just like this one since the box art for all the variants is nothing I'd want to have in my collection (yes even the Holiday Buggy body... not my thing)!

Due to the relative position of the wing mount and rear shock mounts I had to mount the wing really far back but it gives it a really severe angle which I think looks cool anyway. I have a low cost brushless ESC and motor set aside to install in this - to try anyway - but am still enjoying the current setup as-is so haven't swapped it in yet. I also have a set of alloy front steering blocks for when the current nylon ones inevitably break as soon as I make a mistake at speed.

Wow, nice job! Really looks the business indeed. We might be the only two on TC who aren't into that HB body.

Thanks Mike! We may be in the minority on the HB. Plus running a hard shell on a fast car just sounds like a bad idea.

Great combo Beef. I like it a lot, but also I like that it is running an easy to maintain modern chassis underneath as well. I had a DT02 and I really enjoyed running it.

Thanks guys! For now I'll stick with the yellow friction shocks but I have everything I need to throw CVAs on it if I notice it bottoming out bouncing around. And yessir the DT-02 is everything you want in a solid runner, and nothing on it you worry about breaking. It and my DF-02s are my primary runners... good solid buggies!

You're welcome guys!! My own inspiration came from TCer Bwilton84, who's been MIA for a bit, and was the first one I ever saw do this. Of course I think mine took it up a notch with the wheels + tires, and then after adding the Astute/Egress wing at Thommo's suggestion. Can't wait to see your versions guys! Maybe making modern chassis look vintage should be its own SIG if there isn't one? Here's my version of the Blackfoot 3 in the same vein: [Click here]

OK I made up a new SIG for these sorts of vintage/modern mashups - click the 'Vintage Style' banner above and join up so you can add your own DT-02 Astutes and anything else along these lines!
