Really juiced up about how this turned out for what started as a broken bodyset left for dead on eBay. I bought this shell and a rare Kyosho Porsche 906 (both with damage) for 70USD, an absolute steal to someone who likes to do bodywork like me. The Cobra is now all finished, and repaired with fiberglass and body filler and then primed and painted on the outside. A lot of work!!! But these shells are so rare now I thought it was worth the effort. Luckily the previous owner did not destroy the back of the body just the front where I had to do all of the major repair work. See my previous posts for how I fixed that lexan back up to make what appears almost new condition... I pulled an all nighter last evening to paint the body, clearcoat, - then mask and paint the stripes. Into the wee hours of the morning I detailed the interior (painted flat black with a brush). Left the gauge decals on from the previous owner as they were really stuck down well, so I simply painted around them. I might try some Armor-All on the passenger seat to shine it up like leather so there is some contrast from the flat black inside the cockpit. Then onto the assembly of all the bits to the body-touch up chrome on roll bar and side-pipes, clean up and plastic polish the clear portion of the windshield. Then a a re-paint to the chrome frame around the windshield, repaint the red on the tail lamps and get the front grille, hood scoop opening and side vents detailed out with flat black. Luckily I was able to peel away the old Cobra emblem decal and the two 427 decals on the sides of the fenders (tricky) and them re-attach then after painting the body with a tiny bit of help from some CA glue while holding them down with a wood tool made to put pressure on the decals. Then of course the driver figure, which the helmet had to be fully soaked in brake fluid to remove the nasty paint job on it previously. I still need to fabricate a fire extinguisher since that part was missing when I purchased the body from eBay, and I need to weather the drivers suit with dry brush technique. I also plan to sand the wheel arch curves a little nicer as the previous owner cut out those a little crooked here and there. Color of the body is Tamiya TS-17 gloss aluminum and the stripes are Tamiya TS-51 Telefonica Blue which is really brilliant, especially painting it over top of the bright aluminum paint! Quite a lot of work for one day verrrry long night. Started in the early afternoon yesterday on the painting process since bodywork was done and primer was done two days earlier. I kept going all day with breaks for food and playing with the kids,,,kept going and going thru the night until 7am Sunday morning and my eyes were shot. Even with magnifying lenses on my head! Tired but excited when you get so close to being finished......Had to sleep past lunchtime to get caught up on rest. This will see runner duty now and get dirty and the red one can take a break and spend some time on the shelf for a bit. The holes in each body are identical so I can run either one which is a nice option........ scollins

1 -love this -lots of debate in my head... on color choice -red one new when I painted but missing hardware it will sit lower down with a battery installed -shifter from a Kyosho ball stud screw filled in before- damaged front, bad decal job, driver weird a mess when I got it from eBay-hit hard!

WOW! I am so jealous of those Cobras, you did such a beautiful job bringing that one back to life! I have to keep an eye out for one of these. The silver with blue stripes is a perfect combination!

Thanks buddy,, if you take a look at my previous post linked at the bottom you will see how rough this really was,,,lots of fiberglass, epoxy and body filler,,, just like a real crashed racecar (well except an all aluminum Cobra)

Another Treasure from the Scollins Laboratory. If there is anyone who could do justice to a badly damaged shell like that I have no doubt it would be you. That looks amazing. Well worth the effort........
