TA01 Audi Group B Rally Project

Having bought a TA01 chassis and replacing any damaged and missing parts I got it up and running with a Sport Tuned motor and the usual electrics. It is fully ball-raced and has a one way front diff. So the chassis was all done, tidy and complete.
The question then arose; what body and wheels? I love Group B rally cars and I wanted to buy something that was already painted as I really struggle at making time to spend on this much loved hobby. I spotted this Carson shell at ModelSport UK and snapped it up straight away. Then I got an interior, then wheels and just got more ideas as it went along.
Work undertaken: get chassis up and running correctly, paint interior, detail panel lines on the body, fit mirrors, wipers, disc-brakes and build and paint up spotlights. Plus all the scratch work listed below.
Additional parts made from scratch: Mud-flaps, aerial, spotlight fitments, exhaust silencer and pipe, mirrors in the wings, wheel decals, roll-cage, navigators map and modified/reworked window wipers.
Didn’t get hung up on exact accuracies regarding details as I wanted this project to be fun. So here it is, along with all its in-perfections and incorrect minor details.

Looks awesome!!! If only Tamiya released this as a kit on a TA-02 then I would buy it right now!!
Tamichael
Great shots !!!

Thats a great looking car, will we get to see any action shots?
MAD-BEE
Looks really nice!
Jorisschulte
Wow!! very nice!!
Dirt-540
@YOGI-BEAR This ones for the shelf only. Before any of my projects I decide whether its going to be a runner or a shelfer. I knew this one is not a common car so thought it will be just to sit looking pretty. '@MAD-BEE and @JORISSCHULTE Thank you guys.
neobrunox
+1 with Scollins, tamiya missed a great kit car
Dirt-540
@NEOBRUNOX Yes I'm with you and SCOLLINS on that, Tamiya has missed a lot of great cars over the years. This is just one of many. I think sometimes they cant get licence or its just a cultural thing.
hi-pe70
Well done with adding that details to the body! Great pictures too!
But I think Carisma had made the shell, not Carson. There is / was also a complete RTR model available.
And by the way, this is a left hand driven car , but your windshield wipers are mounted for a right hand version.

@HI-PE70 Thank you for your nice comments. As for it being Carisma, you could well be right, but all packaging graphics stated Carson. But as we have come to realize in this hobby, either company could be supplying the other one. As for the window screen wipers, your totally correct. I just couldn't seem to find a set that were the correct way around. As mentioned in my writing in the post, there's a few minor incorrect details on this one, though I just wanted to enjoy the build and keep it fun so didn't get too hung up on certain details. Well spotted mate.
Basket Case
Great looking car. I like it a lot.
Dirt-540
@BASKET CASE Cheers buddy
Incredible_Serious
Certainly looks like the Carisma body I have on my RTR Audi in my showroom.... it sits on the shelf too, which is both awesome to look at, and sad....
Got to love the Group B monsters!!!!
Greta work with the finishing touches, mate.
Dirt-540
@INCREDIBLE_SERIOUS Thanks for your nice words. I agree with the thing about it being sad they just sit on the shelf. I just know that within 5 minutes of running the rims will be chipped, the body scuffed, the spots damaged, at least one mudflap ripped off and god knows what else. That's why I sometimes get 2 of each; one to bash one to shelf. Oh and yes I'd love all the Group B cars as a collection, awsome!
Leethal Driver
Really nice job that, good work.
Jimbo
Very nice. Tamiya and Carcon did make 2 Audi's years ago. One on a Tl01 and one on a TT01. Here's a link to one of them

@LETHAL DRIVER Cheers mate. @JIMBO Thanks for the link; Its the Pikes Peak challenger Audi.
Biscuit
Lovely model, I have seen some Carisma body's like this great work !
AndyjcClod
That looks great, I would love that sort of model as a runner but I agree with you that that is a great choice for a shelf!
Dirt-540
@BISCUIT Cheers mate, I'm starting to think it is a Carisma because your not the first to say that. I could of sworn it said Carson on the bag but maybe I've got it wrong. @ANDYJCCLOD Thanks buddy, I'd love to run it but I've put too much time and money into it to start thrashing it about. Shame i know but every time I drive my Tamiyas I go too far and nearly always break something. The irony is that I originally bought this shell to run but then got project ideas, I should of just ran it without doing anything to it.
