ASAHI WELLCRAFT 'EXCALIBUR 40 HAWK' MONO HULL

This is a vintage 1/10th scale electric r/c boat produced by the Asahi corporation in Japan back in the 1980's and is modeled after the 1985 1:1 Excalibur 40 hawk offshore V-bottom powerboat originally manufactured by Excalibur and then Wellcraft. The 1:1 was produced for a very limited time from 1982-1985 with the 1982 model being named Powerboat Magazine's offshore boat of the year. Excalibur manufactured the boat from 1982-1984 after which Wellcraft purchased Excalibur and took over production of the 40 foot Hawk under the Wellcraft name for one more year in 1985. I picked this example up in the summer of 2018 from a local seller on Ebay for $80 USD. It came with the box, both servos and a receiver installed, the original 540 motor and MSC, some miscellaneous spare servo parts, the manual, and the radio/charger manuals. It's missing the original stand and some of the 30+ year-old plastic window trim and railings are broken or missing but it's nothing that can't be remedied and overall it's in very good condition for its age. I have no childhood connection to this model other then fond memories of the advertisements for it in all the r/c magazines BITD. I haven't seen these become available very often over the years so it seems to be quite rare compared to the relative popularity of vintage r/c boats from companies like MRP, Traxxas and Graupner. I'll lightly run it with a period-correct radio and stock motor and will wait to determine if I replace the factory MSC with a cooler-operating ESC. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy.
