One of the stranger activities associated with the Steampunk genre is the sport of teapot racing, which involves driving RC teapots around an obstacle course. Competitors go one at a time against the clock, and the rules are simple - as long as the vehicle fits into a box 30cm by 30cm by 40cm, is electrically powered and either carries or resembles a teapot, it is allowed to compete. This is my racing teapot, built on a M-03 chassis that started life as an XB Suzuki Swift. It was shortened to 210mm wheelbase, fitted with bearings, a steel pinion, 4WS, wired to run the opposite direction to normal and given Rally Block tyres and a TL-01B bumper to help it climb over obstacles. It wears a Kamtec Morris Minor shell with a handle and spout added to make it resemble a Carlton Ware novelty teapot. The paintjob was kept purposefully simple with minimal detail but a very glossy finish reminiscent of glazed porcelain.
It performs brilliantly, having taken 1st place at the Lincoln Asylum Teapot Races - the premier event on the UK Teapot Racing calendar - and has been featured in one of Madam Misfit's music videos.
