This was never meant to happen...
I decided to rebuild my childhood Astute (see other showroom entry) back to 'as new' spec instead of as a Jamie Booth replica. This meant that I had a bunch of spare Madcap arms, hubs, Hi-Caps, front wheels etc etc all spare. I also had a spare transmission built up and a spare body set, so it only seemed natural to just buy a set of chassis plates and 'one or two' spares (ha!) and build them all up into a runner Astute/Super Astute. Nice cheap, cheerful project to while away the cold winter evenings when I couldn't get on with any painting....
Of course, it all got very, very out of hand, very, very quickly....
I knew I needed some wheels and tyres, so ordered them, and while I was doing that I found some Super Astute lower arms and rear hubs for a silly price, so they went in the basket too.
Then I realised I needed the chassis brace and battery holder as they were different, at which point I started to think that this was turning into more of a proper Super Astute rather than a hybrid. That meant - quite obviously - that a standard transmission just wouldn't work in a Super Astute. Unfortunately the screws that held the TTC in the Monster Racer just wouldn't come undone, so I did the only sensible thing and bought another transmission.
Obviously, it would be foolhardy to build a buggy to this spec and then scrimp on bearings, so a full set was ordered, along with brand new screws.
Now, the thing with a Super Astute is that it doesn't come with a motor - what with it being a proper race buggy - but the motor of choice for them was always the Acto Pink. Well, it would be very rude not to wouldn't it....
After reading @Juhunios epic build thread I was inspired to fit the Top Force CVD's and some tasty hard turnbuckles just to finish it off.
I've not decided on what to do with the body/stickers yet, but it'll have some pink in it to tie in with the motor and wheels (just didn't like the white wheels!!)
So, here it is - my budget (!!!!!) Super Astute runner!!
Update: July 2021 - got a few blue bling bits for it: servo horn and cap and mounts, plus a couple of blue alloy turnbuckles for the steering linkage. Also tidied up the servo lead with some braid (thanks @nicadarus for the tip!) The body is off my Jamie Booth replica which sort of goes with the wheels, but will get replaced at some point in the future.
Update: Oct 2023 - realised I hadn't updated this showroom with the new body. It's a genuine original body that I bought when I had my original Astute that amazingly was still with it when I got it back! All I did was give it a good clean and polish and get some custom Super Astute stickers from MCI on it.

It’s cool & I dig those pink wheels, might just be me but has it got a kind of Mexican theme?
