So this is the actual model that got me back into Tamiyas in 2001, kicking alive all those childhood memories about the Wild Willy that I never got as a child. Shortly after building this WW2, although thinking it was cool, I felt something was off. Some essential details and the overall look & feel was just not right, and even though I did not really know what it was at the time, I knew I had to get the original WW. When I did, I was hooked - and 20 years and about the same number of WWs later, I know exactly what - too me - is the correct look & feel for a Wild Willy 2, it needs to better honor the proportions of the original version, and for sure incorporate those icon tires.
Seasoned members may have seen several iterations of this very WW2 over the years in my quest to make it resemble the OG M38. A few years back I made my custom wheels inspired by the steel wheels seen on the 1:1 Willys, allowing for mounting the vintage tires on the WW2. Along with a bunch of other custom parts I've designed, and after 20 years I'm happy with the overall look and feel of the WW2. Still, somehow none of my projects seem to end...
I've swapped out the stock front steering knuckle assembly with parts from a M-04, in order to mount the standatrd 12mm hex wheel also in the front.
