Team Associated Advanced Racing Products MID motor converted RC10
Well, well well! This is my latest build for our vintage racing series called Nordic Vintage Challenge.
First race for it coming this weekend in Eskilstuna, Sweden.
This was originally a 'Gold pan' or 'Classic car'. It's then converted to a mid motor car using the VERY rare kit from the company Advanced Racing Products back in the day. I've also put Andy's wishbones on it. Modern big bore shocks. Modern electronics and a 17.5 B/L motor.
I first got hold of a kit on ebay/US many years ago. Which I sold to a friend who had been looking for this for a long time. I later regretted selling it so I searched for a new kit. Again ebay/US delivered. But the seller would only ship to the US, so I shipped it to the mother of a friend from the US. Then corona struck... 2 years went by and she had misplaced it... But just before Christmas she finally found it and I got my hands on it :-)
Here is a tread about this kit:

A comment from the manufacturer:
'I actually was 'Advanced Racing Products' back in the late 80's. I was just 19 selling these out of my parents garage. I sold about 500 to 600 of these kits before shutting things down about a year or two later. The original kit was a much less sophisticated design. That kit sold for $69.95 and there were probably less than 100 ever sold. My friend Donnie was actually the brains behind this design and he also machined the all the parts. Composite Craft in Florida made special made the carbon fiber chassis for me, and later I just bought the material from them and Donnie machined those too. The kit consisted of a CF chassis, bulkhead (aluminum), transmission brace (aluminum), shock tower (fiberglass), and gear cover (lexian). Unfortunately, I did not have the expertise to create a new gear cover that fit correctly, so I just included an aftermarket JG gear cover that could be trimmed to 'kindof' fit. Towards the end, a customer from Wichita Kansas, who worked with plastics by trade, made and sold a gear cover that fit the kit perfectly. The kit worked really well compared to the home-made ones that I would often see. Most of the home-made ones reversed the rear A-arms which would actually cause the rear tires to 'toe-out' instead of keeping the proper 'toe-in' of the RC-10. $90 was a lot of money, but keep in mind that just a CF chassis back then sold for almost this much. /Jim'

This conversion was so far ahead of it's time, I think I have an old R/C Car Action with that advertisement in my archives. Excellent work on this build and the body, it should be very capable and I doubt there's going to be another one in the class!

Thx so much!

If this performs as good as it looks you are onto a winner mate!

Wow, very special. You've done a lovely job!

That’s outstanding

Testing today. With some setup adjustments the car has outstanding performance
6-gear tranny holds up well. Set throttle to -100% expo to eliminate wheelies as this car has no slipper.

So the race is over. Like previous experience with the Tekin mid motor RC10 it felt great in friday practise when grip was lower. But come sunday with high grip I could never really find a good setup. Too much wheel lift even with stiff damper oil and springs. Maybe anti-roll bars could have cured it. It was fast but hard to drive.
So fun to see these kits still in circulation. Brings back so many memories. If I recall correctly, I only ever shipped 1 or 2 of the kits outside of the United States. Amazing that 35 years later one is now racing in Sweden! Mind Blown!

It's amazingly cool that Jim, the original manufactuer of this kit, found his way here and left a comment! Now THAT is mind blowing!
I see that the car is a direct rip off of the FAB2000 which I designed and manufactured. As is well known historically, there was nothing in its day that could match its performance, especially over jumps and on loose surfaces. At least it let racers convert a different manufacturers cars. The rest is history and my original creation changed 1/10th racing forever with its and copy cats amazing handling.

I think you are wrong as this kit was made as I understand many years before the FAB2000 (for RC10 gold pan cars). It only fits the old 6-gear tranny.

OK so I've conferred with my 'RC historican' David Hauer AKA Lurking CAT. This is what he had to say:
The Advanced Racing Products was released in 1987/88.
Whilst the FAB2000 kit came the autumn 1994. There was an intro article about it in Radio Race Car i March 1995.
So the ARP kit was released 6 years before the FAB2000.
