Nice little pickup.... HB Cyclone-S Drift Special
Picked this up yesterday locally. Advertised as a Cyclone-S, with photos of the radio, car (body-on) and toolbox. Price was cheap too, about 3 1/2 magic beans (about US$55, or about 45GBP.), No idea on what was under the body until I got it home last night.... so I'm pretty happy!
For starters, the chassis is in pretty good condition, although dirty from use. The car itself comes with many purple alloy upgrades throughout, and the previous owner has installed a couple of extras - HD front and rear shock towers and sway bars. The car is supposed to have a diff up front and a solid / locked rear, but mine seems to have a one-way up front and a diff in the rear..... which needs a rebuild. Came with a spare solid axle, as well as another one-way setup (which needs a rebuild too, I'm sensing a pattern).
Electrically, car came with a nice condition Futaba 2PL setup, with S3003 servos (one unused), a Novak Reactor ESC, and a HPI 23T motor. Sadly, the ESC seems to be toast - everything (and I mean everything!) smells of 'let-the-smoke-out', and the heatsinks were a) glued on and b) touching. I should be able to replace it, though, so no biggie. Also came with a silver can motor, and a NIP HPI X85 motor, which I've never seen before.
Good pile of spares included too, including a nice big toolbox. I think the batteries are all toast (10+ years of no use), but everything else is useful. Even included a Pulsar Sport charger from LRP, and all the manuals and decals, all stored in a folder.... the sorts of bonus bits that make me smile.
Not sure what to do with the body just yet... the paint is coming off all over, which makes me think it's not lexan paint.... so may try to strip, and attempts a respray. All the window masks are even included, unused :) .
Car needs a clean, and to have the rear diff and ESC sorted, but other than that, it's in great shape. Might drop a Novak Drift-spec brushless in it, and have some fun...
