Hi guys, l probably only drive this once a year and a gentle grass run in my garden at most but l believe too much rest is rust lol but end of the day this is a very fragile car because its 40 years old so obviously taking it really easy on it!
So out it came to stretch its wheels! My only humpback battery l own is old and was pants so l use one of my stick packs and had to leave the waterproof lid in the car off to fit it in.l love this thing its special to me its a little bit scruffy but mostly all original Mk1 tamiya Scorcher and to me looks fantastic its full of character! Can't beat an SRB for the ultimate nostalgia boost! Anyway enjoy the pics and thanks for looking and comments welcome cheers James.

4 Tamiya Sand Scorcher 4 Popping the front end up lol thinks its a Traxxas! 2 Can't beat an SRB for the ultimate nostalgic kick 2 1979..... still being sold today what a Legend! 1 This was a slight cringe moment! 2 Nothing broken and back into semi retirement! 2 Arguably the most iconic tamiya ever??

This Scorcher is such a beauty, I love the colors! It's old and full of character indeed. Good to see it gets some action, they all deserve to run at least once in a while!
I can't wait to start building mine, it'll be the first time for me dealing with such a legend I'm a little intimidated! ahah

Thanks buddy l think every tamiya lover has to have a SRB or 3 speed in their collection and l surpose you should include the XR311 and Cheetah in that group as these heavy metal icons really are deep from tamiya's roots! I should get a rere Scorcher to run really but l still couldn't resist driving this old timer from time to time, its even still has the original motor with the slots that hold it in place in the gearbox! Iol what a thing!!! Have fun with yours mate l know you will!

She's a beauty mate, but I don't know if popping wheelies and rolling it really qualifies as a gentle run! It's good to see an original out and about.

Thanks mate yeah l got a bit enthusiastic at times my friend! Such fun to drive especially the suspension with its bouncy but still effective movement especially the rear! Always a pleasure to drive a vintage tamiya and very nostalgic!

You are absolutely right James!
They have a completely different driving feel than today's RC models.
They jump and bounce quite unpredictably, but that's part of the charm of these.
You drive with a high heart rate!!

Haha yeah mate l was definitely feeling that nervous edge and agree the limitations are fun especially on the SRBs! I really love the rear camber and seeing the suspension attempt to deal with the bumps! Fantastic!

These pictures take me back to 1982 when I owned a Ford Ranger and my friend a Sand Scorcher. The countless hours of fun we had ... and that on a 1200 mAh battery that lasted 15 minutes max and took 2,5 hours to recharge. Recharge time was time to work on the cars. that is ... repairing them . Lovely pictures. Pure vintage nostalgia!

Thanks mate lovely hearing your past experience! l was never lucky enough to have a SRB back in the day l started with the Brat in 83 that l was over the moon with it but I bet it was amazing to own a SRB back then! Well at least l have one finally all these years later! I don't think it gets any more nostalgic then original SRBs! Love um!

That looks fabulous. I too have one of these that I've been putting off due to nerves about painting the box-art scheme. I've done it before on a re-re with no worries, but there's no second chances with an early vintage one. I really like your colour scheme. Hmmm! Might have to have a re-think. Lovely to see in action, thanks for showing us!

Nice to see it again in action James. I've taken a few more pictures recently of my vintage Scorcher, so I'll be updating my showroom soon. You're very brave running it!! But then what's the worst that could happen! haha!! Great stuff.
