As a child I remember seeing this car in the Kyosho catalogue but the price was insane. It was always clear at this time this would stay a dream. My price range was more a Grasshopper or maybe a Tamiya F1 :). Recently a runner popped up in our German classifieds and for the price of 250        Euros. I could not resist. I restored this model as good as possible. The original paint job was not good and also it had a bunch of cracks. In many many hours I removed the paint with Carson Lexan paint remover. Since I had to use a lot, sadly the lexan clouded up a bit. This process took days. I think the previous owner painted this car with thick layers by using a brush. Still after the repainting it is not very obvious anymore. I realized with red you can not determine the clouds at all but with the grey you can still see it a bit. However it turned out definitely better than it was. I tried to copy the boxart paint scheme as good as possible. Since the crome parts were heavily scratched I painted them silver (mirrors and grill). I was able to also find a new sticker sheet from Portugal but I want to scan them first so maybe a repo can be made. They will be applied later. Another issue was that the gear box housing was broken into pieces (very common issue with the ccvt). I invested in a cnc machined delrin housing from a guy named RC Lohas from Taiwan. Not cheap but the quality is really good. Today I was just trying to start it and after messing with the fuel needle for a bit it's running good. The only downside is the engine seems not to be sealed perfectly so a lot of fuel sprays out and after a few minutes the chassis is quite messy. I'm not sure yet if that's due to old seals or if that's normal for the GS-11 engine. I really like the whole technology about the CCVT gearbox which was developed together with Bridgestone. It's basically a planetary gear setup where the outer ring rpm is influenced by a cone which can move eccentrically. This results into different speeds of the outer ring of the planetary gear and so you have basically indefinite gear ratios and you can even drive backwards with a gas powered car. A great piece of technology paired with a nice look. Since the car originally does not have oil shocks I also added some after market copies of the Kyosho gold shocks by speed max.
