Jun Watanabe wanted to make a custom RC car design for the Daytona RC Grand Prix, and this is what he designed.

This is my own take on it, and not the original of course, created from looking at photos in the Blockhead Motors RC Car Lifestyle book. It would make a great Tamiya kit, but Blockhead Motors have created a set of decals so that we are able to create it ourselves.

It's a standard Monster Beetle kit, with most of the build time dedicated to painting the body, chassis, and wheels. There is a fair amount of masking, patience, and time that went into creating this, but I'm very pleased with how it turned out, given that all I had to go off were a few images in a magazine, and a set of very well made decals.

This is sitting nicely in my glass cabinet! I realised that it was already looking dusty in these photos!

Comments always welcome, and thanks for taking the time to look.

Thats a nice interpretation of the beetle and worth the work for the paintjob! And with the driver in it this looks kind of real too. Very cool car!

That looks epic Phil! You really must be pleased with this! Nice job buddy. Mate can you imagine if this was the next Blockhead release it would get the blockhead gravy train back on track! I woukd imagine so any way it looks awesome!

Thanks for your comment Cougan, and thanks James too! I think one day we'll see a Blockhead Motors MB release. The WO release was popular, but I'm not so sure the HSII went down as well. We'll have to wait to see what the next release will be...

Very cool, didnĀ“t know, that they sell this as a sticker set. So looking good on the Monster beetle. This would have topped the sales of the Hotshot 2, which was a bit of disappointing after the gorgeous Wild one BHM. Great work on the body and the whole MB, definetely a stunner.

Thank you ruebiracer for your comment. Yeah I think this would have sold very well!

Very nicely done . The colour choice is excellent AA++

Thanks KEV THE REV! Yeah I'm pleased with the colours, and the way it turned out. Thanks for your kind words.
