My old Grasshopper was an absolutely insane car.

Also known as Project T.U.R.D. (Tamiya Ultimate Rampage Device), with its crude suspension and excessive power it was only properly drivable in sand, very loose dirt or snow, and it was just too fragile. I wanted to replace it with a DT-01 based car in orded to have something with the same spirit, but much better handling and durability.

Originally I wanted a proper Mad Bull, but then I came upon this rather beaten-up Fighter Buggy RX on FB Marketplace. It was cheap, close to home, complete with functional vintage electrics (perfect for use in my Grasshopper) and the only broken part was the bodyshell. Given how this car is usually driven, that's no problem.
Yes, I know that Mad Bulls are not rare or expensive at all, but I come from a part of Italy where people are known to be frugal (read:STINGY), and this is the follow-up to Project T.U.R.D. after all. Excess power, minimum expense and effort.

The electrics, shocks and rear tyres were simply swapped with those from Project T.U.R.D. As expected, the handling is much better, but the steering can do with some upgrades which will be added in future.

Unfortunately the DT-01 is only designed for old style stick pack batteries, but a short LiPo can be fitted transversely on top of the chassis as seen in the pictures. The body will hold it in place just fine.

UPDATE 1: I have fitted a crusty, old body from a crusty, old Traxxas Nitro Rustler, as well as its front tyres. I have also replaced the pitiful stock wire steering link with a threaded steel rod and ball ends. So it now looks and drives like a Nitro Rustler that's been in an accident, which is still about 5 times better than its predecessor.
Stay tuned, there is more to come!

I love the stance with the oversized rear wheels. Reminds me a little of a 1970s F1 car. No, the steering is not broken. ;-) 1 Short LiPo batteries can be fitted above chassis. It handles just like it looks. Seriously though, I need to restore that truck. Looks like a Rustler, drives like a T.U.R.D.!

That is one sweet T.U.R.D.! That second pic reminds me of a fat chick with too short a skirt.

@Cowbell indeed, a fat chick with a short skirt and very high heels … that’s exactly how it handles. It really needs stronger steering links.
