What do you get if you leave an old man in his mancave for too long with the following:
1. a reasonable priced rc car
2. a GPL PC game
3. a 1:43 scale Matra MS80 F1 modelcar
4. Cardboard
5. Styrene
6. Bits and Bobs
7. a vivid imagination
Well, to cut a long story short, in the end you get :
The Comical GPL Tribute DT03 (RFF*)!
*= ready for fun
It took some months to complete, but I enjoyed every minute of the process:
First the mechanical departement: adjusting the chassis, lowering the rideheight, optimising the drivetrain with CVD's, ballracing the gearbox and axles and shimming the whole car to get rid of the slop. Then fitting the electronics such as a lowprofile servo, the smallest receiver and ESC ( hidden under the rear wing) I had and finally the esthetics: cutting up the Neo fighter body, making cardboard templates for the cockpit , both the front and rear wing, dremelling, cutting styrene, using milliput, going through my old rc stuff for anything usefull......I was back in the eighties again!
I hope you enjoy the photo's.
Best regards,
Rick
