BBX (More pics added!)
A BBX had been on the radar for a while for me to see where Tamiya are going with all new more modern kit's having been impressed by the XV-02RS & XM-01.
My nearest hobby shop 100k's away announced that they were unfortunately closing down and a last visit I made there they still had a BBX on shelf, well that was up until I left as I couldn't leave it there, and it felt an appropriate souvenir of the last hobby shop anywhere near me.
It was a very enjoyable build with some quality parts in it, and went together nice and smoothly. The only thing I had to alter a bit was to use a metal angle bracket to house the larger than Tamiya probably intended HW Max 10 ESC. I had to make it sit down lower than the kit supplied shelf as the wire motors were bent over exiting the ESC a bit to much for my liking. I did also use a threaded bar from an eBay shop to brace the top of the rear shocks as has been advised to do on many occasions.
As you have probably noticed it's not quite box art. I found myself drawn towards orange/brown tones for this one. The main body got a couple of coats of PS24 Flouro Orange towards the nose blending to PS20 Flouro Red for a subtle fade, then PS 14 Copper, backed with PS60 Mica Red. Lower pods are PS5 Black. Roof, cockpit end of the bonnet & top edges of the side panels are PS52 Champagne Gold Anodised Aluminium backed with PS12 Silver.
A mix of some kit decals, MCI, and some from fellow member Yogi-bear were used to finish off. I'd like to say that what could be considered an abstract Stag head on the bonnet was done deliberately to tie in with the Jaegermeister on the roof, but I can't. But it seemed to work so there we have it.
Forward propulsion is care of the HW 4100kv Brushless motor out the back which gives a very nice turn of speed & 25 tooth pinion. Probably the pinion is a little to big but its all I had bar the stock 18t. It was more than enough for the silicon I used to stick the tyres on with as within a minute of its first run, one of the rear tyres were flung off down the Beach. Fortunately I had the Sand Paddles from my Stadium Blitzer with me, so on they went so I didn't have to take a fully charged LiPo home again. They look a bit big and painting the Buggy Green accompanied with some John Deere Decals wouldn't look out of place when they are on.
This thing is an absolute joy to watch lapping up the sand undulations in its stride, so well set up straight from the box. All the hype is very deservedly earned with this offering from Tamiya. Also pleased to say no Driveshaft's popped out like some have had, thanks to another recommendation from Toyolien on here to put both 0.5mm shims on the inside of the Drive Cups. Can't wait for the next trip out with it.
Thanks for looking in.

Awesome looking buggy mate, I may well look into one of these myself at some point. I particularly love the old and new pic. The new certainly seems to be inspired by the old

Cheers bud, there’s definitely a bit of the old DNA in there which is nice. I took the Fighting Buggy (as don’t have an OG Super Champ because the box art of the BBX is similar, but holding a Buggy Champ next to it you can see some of its influence as well.
The bigger wheel diameter of BBX are certainly better suited to more of the terrain I run on around here.

Fantastic pics and what looks like the perfect location for the BBX. My BBX is a joy to drive. Yours looks good next to the Fighting Buggy. I think Tamiya has done an excellent job of making a modern version of their first off road buggies.

Thank you, and I couldn’t agree more Mr Toyolien.

Looks fantastic and those sand tyres are insane love um! Like the guys said pic 9 with old design and new old ish design is spot on! Nice job the BBX tamiya but the only thing l would of liked a name more fitting for the BBX! For example the Super Gripper, or Dirt Cross, and maybe Dune Rider lol or something more classic tamiya like that?
Anyone know what the BBX stands for anyway?? Beach buggy xenon?? Who knows? Love the BBX though its a fantastic buggy. Great pics too mate.

Thanks Mad-Bee, no idea what BBX stands for? But I like your idea of Dune Rider instead
