Since joining TC.com and viewing other Brats l decided to pull apart my shelf queen and re-do it as 10 years on the shelf had started to take its toll, and it was looking tired.
And now it's done. My beloved Brat is now on its third restoration and looking even better than EVER! Brought another Brat with a new body from 'RENKEN 2000' to make in to a runner after seeing the fun 'volksrod et al' were having with their retro cars and used that body (hence that's why there are some black Brat action shots) as this was much better than my previous body. l took a gamble when l lacquerd the black as l applied it over the decals in order to keep them looking sharp. That was the trouble previously as some of them had started to lift. l also found an original picture of it and remembered my driver had orange hair so l have given him back his ginger locks. The chassis has been painted in grey primer because it had partly gone yellow??? and showing signs of fatique so this was the best cost option. It also saw a skim of filler over the bottom to cover up the scratches. Found semi new trailing arms and gearbox plastic and switch rubber stuff from a trade (thanks Rammer) and new metal bits from the bay. The tyres aren't exactly great. The rims are new but the tyres are a little perished but with the use of cockpit shine they have been given a new lease of life. My original tyres were almost bald and one looked like it had gone flat. And to be honest, these perished tyres wouldn't last 5 minuets on a runner. And here is something you don't hear often, it has been newly ball raced with plastic bearings. So what's 'original' original from my original 1986 Brat? Half a chassis, front suspension arms, speed controler, servos link arms and rods, motor and front body post. So could this almost be a new in box? At the bottom is a picture of what it looked like some 6 months ago. Notice the rear wheel!
