These seem to be much rarer than I expected?
This is my 4th NIB XC chassis car by Tamiya. I really like the look of the Mu Type-X. The cool silvered wheels look great and so do the Goodyear Wrangler tyres. It's the wheels that make this vehicle look so good I think. This was a buy-it-now on Ebay for 184.66 GBP (339 USD) from Masako Katsuse in Japan (yet again), and he sent it to me on 14th April 2005, and it came to me in England via Surface mail Insured, postage cost was 20.70 GBP (38 USD), and it was insured for 40,000 Japanese Yen (about 202 GBP as I look it up on www.xe.com/ucc of 21st May 2005). It took until 20th May 2005 to come which is reasonable for surface post from Japan to England.. Yet again I did not pay any Import Duty OR Parcel Fo(a)rce clearance fee OR VAT !! Again I think that this is because it was surface mail (all the things that I have had via surface mail have never been charged). What struck me when this one came was the condition of the box - it arrived intact BUT it had LOTS of horrible black dot marks on it [Japanese MOULD :-( ]. He did NOT tell me about this. The auction said 'New in Box' but didn't mention the black marks on it. This was a unfair of him, I feel. However, I cleaned them all off with just water and a cloth (hard work, lots of rubbing) and now the front of the box is just about perfect!!, which took my breath away when I sat back and admired it!! I am so happy :-) Maybe luck is with me today! :-) However the left panel side of the box was bashed a bit in one position - a very odd thing - the crumple only lasts for about 2 1/2 inches by 1 inch, the rest of the panel is great (I can tell that this was on the box when Masako had it since the outer mailing box had not so much as a mark or scratch on it), and again he did NOT tell me about this. I was a little dissappointed by these 2 (not exactly pleasant) surprises. I hope that he will try to describe any faults on these boxes in future a bit better? Anyway as I say I now have a near perfect box so I am very happy. There is only a just a trace of yellowing on the far right hand side of the box only, the rest is white, colours are a tad faded on the left and right side panels but the front of the box with the main box art has the most wonderful and amazing colour saturation against a white background, it's beauty that takes my breath away!
The inner box and the contents and the manual. were fortunately totally perfect! This is yet again Tamiya R/C at it's finest and a perfect, beautiful scale model. I love it! This is going to be a definite shelf queen.
