****NOW SOLD TO A FELLOW CLUB MEMBER****.
Well after about a year restoring this, I finally have my Hilux 4x4 runner. This one was built from the best bits from about 3 Hilux’s I had at one time or another.
The body was initially black with holes and scapes but is now restored and topped off with 4 coats of Toyota Dark Blue Metallic with a lacquer top coat.. Gearbox and axels virtually new and ball raced. New 540 motor with new pinion mated to a new spur gear. New rubber plugs all over. Running the original transistorized speed controller and 6v 4000mhA battery (still accepts 3800mA after 20 years!) and separate AA batteries to supply the radio. I fitted my home-made aluminium front bumper bars as this is going to be a runner and I did not want to damage my black plastic ones. Also fitted new hex head screws all around. Kept the decals to a minimum to give it a ‘street’ look.
I think the Hilux was one of the most realistic RC models Tamiys ever made! What do you think?

....great job... realy a runner ?

Yep its my runner, though only on my drive. Thankfully the combination of an old battery and a speed controller that robs power means it got a pretty sedate drive!

Looking superb, exactly the way I long planned to do my runner body, shame I never have time for it...

Great restoration and a sweet colour scheme, time well spent i think!
Simply beautiful Ramesh! The paint finish looks superb, that Halfords spray paint in true colour matched real Toyota blue looks incredible and shiny and metallic. I can almost feel from here the amount of effort that you have put into this truck for the restoration. State of the Art scale R/C realism to warm the heart. Cheers, Alistair G.
