I picked up this one about two years ago on a local trading site. Back then it was in a bit of a sorry state and had a red/yellow paint job. The real bonus was that it came with a new front bumper, new rear cage, new front suspension set, NIB bearing set and a NIB 6 volt battery. I actually restored the chassis within a week of getting the car but the body was a different story. It took me a whole year to pluck up enough courage to finally start work on the shell. First the shell was given the brake fluid treatment, the left front wheel arch was glued and filled and the left side roof gutter needed about an inch replacing. It took about six hours to mask and a matter of minutes to apply the top coats. The decals are genuine Tamiya. The exhaust, wing mirrors and indicators are rcgrabbag repro's (and damn good ones too). This car will never be run again.

As I got it....

Hmm..... so that's what I passed up by not bidding another 5 bucks? Bugger!

Now that's one AWESOME restoration job, that paint work and those details have been expertly done. Must admit that if I had put that much effort into it then it would pain me not to run it (lightly)! Beautiful work though, Top job Cheers, Alistair G.

You are certainly lucky, not too many of these floating around home looking like this. Top job!

Thanks nzl60 (great name btw). You should bring a couple of them back to NZ on your next trip home.

Top job John! 2 years of dedication you mean, lol. Now chuck it in a glass case so the dust doesn't get to it

Cheers Mike. I know what you mean about the dust. Might have to get someone in once a week just to dust off the collection

Looks much better in the 'flesh.' Now get yourself a runner so we can hit those 'Naki beaches

I'd love to get a runner Mike. Let me know if you hear of any cheapies (if there is such a thing)?

Yeah, I've thought about buying a re-re as a runner - I've never driven an SRB before. Yep, the masking was a pig of a job. It took me the duration of a New Zealand versus England one day cricket match to mask it (it always takes longer when the TVs on). Correct - white first, then the blue. I only use Tamiya masking tape as it doesn't bleed on the edges and has a little bit of stretch to make curves a bit easier.
