I wanted to build a second Wild One runner for some time now, so that me and my brother will be able to run this cool buggy together.
Having acquired a very cheap lot of Wild One parts locally (all nib, including a body set!), I was looking for a project car to use them on, when I noticed this sorry looking Wild One on ebay (see last pic). A quick check confirmed I had all the required parts to complete it and turn it into a runner. I was able to secure the car for not too much (although shipping from England cost about twice the car). After a close examination I came to the obvious conclusion –this Wild One had a hard life! The chassis is cracked at the usual place: left side under the roll bar, the front suspension shaft was bent from a front end collision, the aluminum gear case mount was heavily bent, undoubtedly from bottoming out after jumps, and the gear case halves screw holes were stripped from over tightening.
I glued the cracked chassis with ca to give it some strength, and used it on the stripped gearbox screw holes as well to give the screws some bite. I used a spare frog differential parts that I had and mounted an 850 bushing instead of the original diff washers (which I didn't have).
I decided to paint the roll cage aluminum, as well as the side nerf bars and front chassis bar – I always thought that Tamiya molded the front chassis bar to look like its part of the pipe frame that real buggies are made of, so that the body merges with the chassis and gives the general illusion of a pipe frame covered with metal sheets.. During the restoration I noticed that TC member scollins was offering a used Wild One gearbox cover in the trade room. This is the one part I didn't have (originally I intended to use some scrap lexan instead) so I emailed him and he only asked me to cover the shipping price. The gearbox cover was painted in black over the original red plastic which suited me just fine to complete the overall look. Thanks again Steve! A used set of Frog shocks was mounted at the rear, and Super Hornet orange wheels were mounted all around (I think they give a nice contrast to the black body & chassis). I installed a Tamiya TEU-101 ESC to run the 540 motor. An interesting point I would like to add is that the 850 bushing that replaces the original diff washers works exceptionally well (I didn't had to add any shims as I did to my other Wild One with original diff washers), the diff is smooth and quiet, with no signs of slipping.

It looks a lot nicer in the pics then in real life... with the bit up chassis and the scrached and dented roll bars this is definately not a shelf queen..

You have done a great job with that, from how it started.

I'm considering using Rough Rider Wheels and tires with chrome covers but due to a limited budget I'll have to postpone this idea...
