I spose you could say I got this as a 'Christmas pressie for myself,' lol. I picked it up from Hearn's Hobbies in Melbourne, Australia while on holiday as I'd seen a few here at TC painted up in non box art colours and thought they looked kinda cool, plus I wanted something new from Tamiya - I didn't realise this was only released in 2005!

The best way to describe these is to say they're quite similar to the Astute in looks and performance if you were to compare it to an old school Tamiya. Full ball bearings are included in the kit & with the addition of an ESC & very well wearing spiked tires (I've mainly run this on tarmac and they've hardly worn in nearly a month) this buggy represents value for money :)

I decided against the box art colour scheme early in the build and opted for a Tamiya coloured scheme to brighten it up a bit. I did away with most of the included decals and instead used left over Sand Scorcher decals & I think it turned out quite well! ;)

Chucked in a Sport Tuned for good measure... Old school steering set up. Tamiya rebadged Futaba ESC. Sleek Powerade? Nah, Gatorade ;)

Is there really such a thing as LEFTOVER SS decals??? Sacrilidge??? LOL I think it is a nice job and thanks for the comparison to another great old Tamiya racer. I just might have to put this on my wish list, this or the Viper.
