Early example - Black Bumper (From UK)
I just love seeing those old videos of these models running on the sand at the beaches. I've decided to build a 'custom' Rough rider just for this purpose. It will be fitted with 'rubber-sealed' bearings (to keep the sand/salt water out of the bearings), water-proof 100Amp ESC (will be mounted outside the radio-box due to heat) probably mounted over gearbox where the old resistor cage goes, and a pair of rubber booties for the 'universal joints' (protect them from the sand). I already have 'vintage sized' battery packs made-up, even a couple of 8.4v (double-hump) which will still fit within radio tray. I'll fit a new stock 540 motor, probably leave the body as it is and track down some 'sand-paddle' rear tires and a pair of spot lights. This model should be real fun to drive on the beaches, with very little maintenance required. I'll just spray it down with fresh water after each use. Can't wait until its ready ...

Nice lot of gear man, you're certainly 'preparing for sandy circumstances..!' If you can get a set of those full-on sand paddles (not just the Scorcher ones) for the rear, she will look beasty..!!! Rod
