RC display at Stoneleigh NAC on sunday 8th Dec
Here are some of the pictures I took at the Stoneleigh Toy Fair on Sunday December 8th were Me and My friend Richard Brooks had arrange to have a display of some of our relevant RC car collections.
We arranged to meed up at the NAC front gates for 8am and after Richard handed me my pass we drove round the car park next to Hall 1 and started to unpack after first taking a quick look round to see which tables we had been alloted, we would have liked some against the wall but we eventually found tables 113-116 which were near the left rear corner of the hall, even though we had 4 numberd tables they had given us two more which we doubled up behind the end ones.
Me were soon joined by my cousin Darren (Trabbidaz) who had promised to look in and see how we was doing, and he stuck around to help out until he had to leave at about 1pm, he bought 2 of his cars to show, his rough but Original Wild One and his Fiat Abarth, I had arranged to do a few dealing with him while he was there and even managed to help him replace a few bits on his Wild One, he also bought some oval block tires off Richard before he had to go.
The doors for the fair were due to open at 10am and it took us until then to get set up, Richards collection was a variation of Tamiya kits some NIB, new built or used condition and he also had a load of very old Toy RC cars mostlt from Corgi or Taiyo, Richard used the boxes he had as part of his display whereas I lined all my cars up in neat rows on the two tables I had available, I bought 25 cars from my collection but onl;y had space to display 23 of them and they each had a small bright yellow car with a brief discription about the car.
Business was a little slow at first and for the first half hour it was mostly other traders who were walking round, some asked if we were selling but we had put up a number of signs saying they were for display only and not for sale, things started to get a little better towards midday, and we had a number of ppl come up to talk about the models, and some of those said that they had old RCs at home that they didnt use anymore and may be prepared to sell so we gave out a few phone numbers and now hope to hear back from them.
Some of the cars we were offerd were Schumacher Cat and Couger, a built cheeter with box, an aparrently MIB Holiday Buggy, Yokomo Super Dogfighter and a claimed tidy Falcon, anyway we will have to wait and see what happens as regards to come back on thses offers.
Alot of ppl would walk past ask how much and when we said not for sale they would just walk away, my TXT-1 attracted a lot of interest especially from passing kids who would point and go "WOW" at the huge truck but were mostly put off when I said it was worth £400, we did get a few ppl who would talk about RCs they used to own but for the most part it wasnt as busy as I was expecting and in some of the more boring moments we would get out a few RCs for a quick drive on the floor, Richard had his Mini-Z Audi TT, Black Rig and Snow Tracktor and I used my Blazer, Rocky and Lunchbox, but the shiney concreat floor was too polished to get any decent grip on and the cars would do nowt but unconrolable powerslides for the most part.
Anyway later in the afternoon the crowds thinned out and I had a quick look around the Toy Fair but apart from an Interesting Optima that I was in two minds to buy there wasnt anything much of interest, when the doors closed we started to pack all the stuff back into our cars and when that was done it was time to go, Richard was quite pleased with the day but I had been expecting more and was a little dissapointed that no Tamiyaclub members managed to show but it was a worthwhile event for us all the same.
