This is actually my second Super Champ - the first one was raced to death back in the eighties. This one came from the bay and was in a bit of a sorry state - most of it was there but the body was in two pieces and the roll cage was broken and had bits missing.
The chassis strip and re-build was straight forward and once clean the metal proved to be in suprisingly good condition. I added ball races, some chrome rims and some new tires (I'm so glad they re-released the Hornet!!).
The body took quite a bit of work to re-build - I ended up making a new roll cage from brass and plastic tube, the two body halves were re-joined and took ages to fill and sand to a perfect finish. I chose to paint it with Citroen possiedon blue, added some of 'netsmith's' excellent repro decals and gave it 6 coats of clear. The finishing touch was adding some of Cul-Tech's superb alloy headlights, which make it look just a bit different. The driver was given a re-paint with a mad star pattern airbrushed onto his lid and a chocolate chip camo pattern on his jacket.
I'm not one to usually go for box art, but this build was a tribute to my first Champ - may she rest in peace (pieces?).
Comments always welcome. ;-)

As always, this is one nice restore (like the pics too). I dig the Super Champ, but need to save my pennies to justify buying a new one to fix up.

That is real nice looking, I will have to use it as a guide to building mine. Just wondered, no bumper to look more realistic???

Indeed - I have several stock bumbers but they are hideous. I don't plan on hitting anything anyway!
