Avante project: start
I bought this car new in '88 when my dad brought it home from a business trip in Hong Kong. How he got the box in a suitcase, I'll never know. Anyway, he picked it up for $200US, with the Technigold motor and sold it to me for the same.
The weekend after I built it, I ran in the 4wd class at Tait's in Saginaw and took first place. In two or three years of racing RC after that, I never had another first.
I wanted to get the factory hop-up stuff for the Avante when they came out, but couldn't afford them at the time. I did have the titanium rod set on backorder, but in the meantime, they discontinued it. Gotta love the old days of dealing with MRC to import Tamiya stuff :P Anyway, I'm now tricking the car out like I wanted it then. So far, I've got the graphite chassis set, titanium screw set and I 'borrowed' the hi-caps from my Super Astute. When my funds recover a bit, I'll get the ball diffs and ball race steering.
I had some mixed feelings about modifying my original Avante so I have another original one coming. So I'll have one bone stock and one as tricked out as possible.
