After seeing it on mentioned on the forums and in a couple of peoples showrooms (sorry, can't remember who), I though I would go with the third rear shock for my soon to be runner re-re Lunchbox.

I built my Lunchbox, then remembered I was going to do this mod, so removed the gear box, cut a groove in at as seen in the first picture...

Then got a shock ready and test fitted it to the gear box, with the metal rod going through the bottom shock mount, pictures 2 and 3...

I bought a spare U shock mount from ebay (if you don't fit oil filled shocks all round then you should have some spare U shock mounts), I fitted the gear box back on and marked where I needed to drill a hole to mount the U shock mount (one of these holes are from the touring car shock), see picture 4 (shows chassis upside down with mount in place - ignore the other hole!)...

Then put it all back together :)

Groove in gearbox 2 Shock to match the others fitted It fits :) Mount in place (ignore the other hole!) Re-assembly... 3 ...and finished product :)

I'm not being critical, I just don't understand. It looks neat, but what's the point of the extra shock?

It replaces some tiny little axle springs which are prone to breaking easily. It's also meant to change the wheelie characteristics but I haven't run the car enough to see what the difference is!

Thank you for the explanation. I really didn't know.

what shock did you use? im thinking of doing the same but need a matching shock like your... got a spare?

The shock started off as a Monster Beetle shock that was in a box of parts that came with some cars I bought. It wouldn't fit with the standard yellow base, so used a base from an old friction shock that was removed from another chassis. I'll check later to see if there's another complete spare

hi, mate, nice mod have you put a large washer on the other side of the chassis to help spread the load!

What diameter is the metal rod you used?

The metal rod is part of the kit.

Hi, I can't remember the seller I got my spare bracket from - sorry

I do remember asking the shopkeeper on the forums for the relevant part and I'm pretty sure that he/they could supply them

Good luck!

Thanks to your help ive got some u shaped brackets and screw bag A so i have plenty of the screws and flange nuts that hold the dampers on. Should be on and up and running again by the end of the week. I'll have to dig my runner body out again.

well this mod also in conjunction with oil shocks makes for clunk free wheeling which i always found disconcerting lol wheelies did sound like something was breaking lol

If you stiffen the chassis aswell, then your Luchbox will be rock solid!
