A Lifted Hilux for a Runner

This is a truck that came from me having to have a 3-speed that was a runner. Since I knew I was going to run it I made some changes to her to suit me better. The big changes were a lift kit with larger tires and making the bed a real bed.

The bed was a challenge because it really made me have to get creative with where the electrics went. Almost everything went under the driver except the battery which goes under the bed, and the steering servo sits up front hooked directly to the front axle.

The lift consists mainly of Jugg leafs with some minor mods to the spring perches for clearance reasons. Custom driveshafts were made using Jugg U-joints. It rolls on custom wheels for 2.2 tires that fit on Hilux style axles so I still have the manual hubs.

The chassis was bought on Ebay for this project but the body I auctually had from my Hilux as a kid. I restored the body and fabricated the new bed but the driver is still the same paint job I did as a kid. It's cool to see what you did so long ago..

It has my U-bolt elliminators on the axles which makes it go through brush much easier not having anything hanging down to get caught on. Sweet..

There are still some things I want to do to her, mainly is make a slide in camper, but for now I am just going to run her for a while to take a break from the build and get some drive time out of her.
