What with all the excitement over the 1/10th Porsche 959 body kits I forgot all about this addition to my collection.
The chassis was given to me by the editor of RCRacer magazine back in June 2004 as a prize for writing the best letter of the month. The letter was all about brushless drive systems, and the original prize was a Reedy 3000mah NiMh pack or a Reedy 19 turn motor, which weren’t much use to me. So the editor had a root around the Aladdin’s cave of RC stuff at RCRacer HQ and came up with the Super RS4 chassis, which he suggested would be good for experimenting with extra cells, LiPo’s etc.
The Super RS4 is a satisfyingly robust chassis, if a bit heavy, and performed well as a test mule, but I was never happy with belt drive as there always seemed to be undue drive line resistance with no advantage in weight versus latest shaft drive chassis.
It is in effect a wide 1/10th scale, like a 1/10th buggy, but with reversible rear lower arms to adjust the wheelbase.
I chose the Toyota endurance racer shell mainly because of the interesting aerodynamics, which I have yet to optimize, and the Le Mans racers have always been a favorite of mine.

I ran one of the early 959 shells on this car before the Toyota, before many of the modifications to make the Dakar version. Those of you who know your race history will see the Porsche 961 endurance version of the 959. If there is enough demand a production run of a 961 variant is possible. And you wouldn’t need a HPI Super RS4 chassis, just fit a set of the slick 2.2” wheels and stiffen and lower the suspension of your buggy!!! Thinking about it, this would make a very light and very stable car park basher, much better at soaking up real world surfaces. Let me know your thoughts, everything is in place to create this,,,except the cash of course,,,,Lol!

Very purposeful look Robust and stable chassis With a Dakar 959 body Porsche 961, Group B 959, could be new project???? Porsche racers always look the business
