Finally finished my best man's Toyota FJ-40
Well, thanks to the club, I have started, executed and finished my Toyota FJ-40 built on a TA-01 Hummer chassis. It was a long time ago and well before the 'Model that Tamiya should have made' contest and a member here(can't remember who it was now, sorry, speak up if the photo is yours) posted a photoshopped box art of a Toyota FJ40 on a Bruiser chassis. Well fast forward forever and it was last year that I bought a Hummer to get a donor chassis after looking at Wyoming's wonderful FJ-40 projects and then promptly sold the Hummer bodyshell to another member across the pond. I finally built the chassis(see reference) and then asked (begged) Wyoming to work his magic with some paint and detail and some bumper shaping. I don't have the best photos, but his turnaround time was LIGHT SPEED. He sent it back the same day he got it, said the work only took him 4 HOURS !!!!! I plan on getting some scraps of computer casing and trying my hand at a rear bumper like the real thing. There are some 1:1 photos that show the same front wheel 'hang' at the front wing as you Brits put it. I thought this came out well and would love to have one myself. Too bad Proline no longer makes the bodyshell. Can we get a call into Kamtech Keith and have him make them readily available????? I still have to slow this car down, Seth suggested a 55 turn lathe motor, will see what can be done between now and the 1st of the year.

Very nice work

Great work on the conversion! This would have been a pretty cool kit if Tamiya made it. Would be neat to fit a driver figure in there for the vintage look.

Nice work fella, I have had mine built for over 2 years and it is one of my favourite runners [Click here]

The FJ40 box art is made by Simensays

Thank you all for the info and the comments. It would really be great for Tamiya to actually make one & DImblum I do have a headless Monster Beetle driver, could patch a Blackfoot head to him and...................HMMMMM Let me think about that.
Proline is re-relasing it as the Bushwacker
TWINSET
I guess you've seen the Proline Bushwhacker shell?
They've basically de-badged the FJ40 and re-released it

mmm, this truck looks strangely familiar for some reason. LOL! I hope it serves yah well, I just rebuilt my silver one this weekend after it lost its wheels, bumper and body posts somwhere.

I mounted a breuiser interior in my FJ40 body, and a hilux driver - fits perfectly!

IMHO if you can't get the FJ40 bodyset, then I hope you are GREAT at fabricating decals as I checked out that Bushwacker thing and it doesn't do the same things to me as the original. It is ashame that someone can't work out something to keep the real TOY alive. I guess there was someone not wanting to pay the fees involved with a BRANDED item, but comeon, who wants a Fantasy model R/C??? That is the reason we all build models here, to imagine we have the real thing and are driving it. Rant over with.

Very nice, I have been gathering parts for the last few months to build an FJ40 of my own. Proline Bushwacker body, TLT-1 Rock Buster, M1025 wheels, F350 Hi Lift Tyres. It is going to be my Christmas project....

Ya know, I think we need to give Crash Cramer a big atta-boy for single handedly showing Tamiya what to build way before they got done with their CR-01 Landy!

Steve, I cannot in any fashion take all the credit or the blame as it may be. I got inspired by Simensays' box building a few years ago and then I sent out my FJ body to Seth(Wyoming) so it could be painted better than I could do it and well, Seth had already done one or two TA based FJ40s, so I guess the credit goes to him more than me. Lastly, I think Tamiya would have done us all a bigger favor it they made it on a modified new 3 speed chassis like Simen's original hinted at.

Hmmmm....so Seth and Crash and Simensays single-handledly schooled tamiya on the CR-01 Landy?

I have a long list of 'models Tamiya should have made' and it starts with the Subaru Loyale.
Crash Cramer
Do you mean the Loyale as in the wagon model??
