XC Chevrolet Blazer K5
This project has been on-off for the past few months, LOTS of bodywork, far more than id like! It all started after seeing the K5 in erik swe's showroom, thought to myself, hmm, wouldnt mind a go at that! In a way im glad i did, but during all the bodywork it was something i wish i had never started. At least now the hardwork is over with, and seeing as ive been a bit quiet on here lately i thought id post some shots of it.
The base was a brand new clod body set off ebay, original chrome parts were used for the chevy badge, and also an original tailgate. The body was shortened, then slots cut into the back corners of the cab for the new rear panels to sit into for more strength. Both side panels were glued into place using 'Bondloc' plastic-weld, great stuff. Then a frame work was glued around the edges for the rear tailgate panel and roof to sit onto and then bonded together. The windows were a pain, and am still tempted to fill them in and have a solid back end like a van. They are not totally perfect. The entire cab roof was cut off and a new panel put in because i love the looks of trucks with sun visors above the screen. Not an easy job but worth it i think. The primer on the body now is just a coat to show what else needs doing before i can get excited about paint. Im thinking about white with black rear windows, see the last pic. I could go on about the bodywork all day but i'll leave it at that, just have a look at the pics n let me know what you think! cheers.

Stunning fella, love it! What make are the wheels, suit it really well.
Volksrod
Rich, the wheels are Carson touring car wheels, but have had the outer rim of the standard pajero xc wheels glued onto them to widen them and give a nice deep dish to them. stretches the tires out a bit and makes them look meaner.
Petrolhead

That is sweet. I always wished Tamiya would come out with a K5 kit or bodyset. Good job.

I have seen a few of these K5 projects going back to the late 80s when the clod came out, and this is looking like one of the best conversion jobs I've seen, You got the roof and proportions right. I've always wanted to do one but kept getting sidetracked...lol! Nice work!

Outstanding work ! That truck klooks just like the one at the beginning of the movie 'Commando' that Arnold uses to drive through the woods !
monster_beetle
Wow, this looks reall great. This project deserves a lot of respect. What chassis is it based on?
Volksrod
its based on a new xc chassis, bought a new touareg kit and sold the pig-ugly body, and wheels and tires, and kept just the chassis. Had to make new links to shorten the wheelbase, and the manta ray shocks are just temporary for now.
Rising Jack
Very realistic and well proportioned, great work!

Nice job! I have had a K5 Blazer, sold it this year. Looks really as the real thing... do you consider to put the body on a Bruiser frame chassis? Would be the perfect model!!
