i was sortin some magazines out the other day and found some old rc ones, and in on of them there was a small article about a kit thunder tiger make to convert your ta02 to nitro, i figured some people may be interested in seeing this, i wonder if it ever got past this prototype? this is what the article said word for word :) ....................... Nitro ta02
Thanks to thunder tiger, all those trusty tamiya ta02s out there can now be converted to nitro power. Thunder tiger engines are quickly establishing a reputation for reliability and power, and this tamiya/thunder tiger hybrid could prove to be formidable team on the nitro-sedan racing scene. The conversion kit includes: double deck aluminium chassis, all necessary hardware, fuel tank, thunder tiger engine (both .12 and .15class size available), header, tuned pipe, flywheel, two-shoe clutch, dual belt-drive train, full ball bearings, disk brake and front and rear transmissions.

Very cool, I've seen a few TA02 nitro conversion kits over the years on ebay, one was on a Taisan Porsche. They are pretty rare!

Makes me wonder what gears and diffs are in them. The standard Tamiya ones don't put up with powerful motors at all.

I have a CEN GX1 nitro chassis - is is exactly the same as this conversion kit. I assume CEN either made them for Thunder Tiger, or bought/copied the design. If you can find a CEN GX1 in a shop or on ebay, it's probably a much cheaper way of doing this conversion than trying to find one of the rare Thunder Tiger kits.

So the only tamiya bits left are the front and rear suspension and wheels? And it's not even shaft driven any more. Would that qualify as Tamiya under the TC showroom rules?

I've got round to putting pictures in my showroom of my CEN GX1 - you can see the similarity for yourself!
