Trailer for Racing Buggies
Well, something new had to happen, so i thought i´d have a go at building a trailer. I love the Whitebone-ones, but think they are a bit too expensive, so what to do? Easy.. Try to build one yourself. :) I have used curtain-rails for the frame, aluminum-netting, and leftover-bits from TLT´s, combined with some TA-02 rear hub carriers, and Manta Ray upper arms for the suspension. Everything is bolted and 'JB-welded' together..
For the chains, i came up with an idea to make to 'stretchable', so they could be pulled to place over the screws, securing the ramp. And how to make a chain flexible? Just replace a couple of 'pieces' with o-rings. This makes them easy to stretch to fit, and it keeps them tight, so the ramp won´t rattle when running. I had a set of Carson Touring wheels lying around, doin´nothing, so they were used here..
The size of the frame itself is 45 x 24 cm´s, which is a suitable size if you want to haul buggies. I used my Hotshot as 'template' for the design..
The hinges for the ramp are made from suspension bits from the TLT-1, and a piece of 4mm threaded shaft, and, of course, curtain rail. :)
The tow hook is also made from TLT-bits, and is easy to remove for offroad-running. As you can see, i have drilled a 2 mm hole through the tow'ball' to be able to secure the trailer to the hitch with a snap pin. ;) Also, the 'eye' on the trailer is flexible, allowing the trailer and truck to 'twist', without overloading the plastics..
Next up is fabbing a set of fenders, adding a rear bumper, and then some lights..
Also, the trailer is a match for my Pajero, which has had a tow hook for quite a while now..
The new wheels on the Hi-Lift are Imex Swamp Dawgs on Mudrock Challenger beadlock rims..
As usual, comments are VERY welcome.. :D
Cheers..
Michael

Very ingenious use of leftover parts - that's what modelling is all about in my book!
Nice trailer. It looks familiar to me. Check mine, you see how i made the fenders : [Click here]
