Grasshopper caught the holiday bug!
What do you do when the weather is lovely and you have some time off work? You head to the beach of course! So i Grabbed my bugged Grasshopper & the mrs and jumped on the train to
Paignton in Devon! We were there for three days and on the last day i took my bugged hopper out! I thought i would start out buy taking some pics. I managed to get two shots in then my camara battery went flat! I had forgotten to bring my charger with me So i couldn't get any action shots :( But i had a blast anyway! this thing was insanely fast on the hard sand getting some huge rooster tails!
The bug seemed to impress the locals as i had quite
a few people watching me send this car flying up and down the beach! I even had the pleasure of being offered a drink by a bikini clad lovely much to the annoyance of the other half! But alas the good times were not to last as i flipped the bug on a large pebble and snapped the wing off! also the top section of the aerial on my 2PL managed to come off! Not snap but come off! (strange as i never had that happen to me before!) I can fix the wing as its held on buy tape but i dunno how im gonna fix the aerial! ah well.....
The Car
I bought this kit out of the local rag. The bloke that i got it from had not realized/ been told that you have to buy a seperate radio system and batts, he also had no clue as to why you had to put it together! When i opened the box i noticed there was no body! stickers yep, figure uh huh but no body! I asked him were it was. 'my brother needed the plastic to fix his kitchen door' I was gobsmacked! and a little peeved, thinking i had wasted my time i gave him a stupid offer '20 pounds' i said. Ok came the reply! This put a grin on my chops as i could easily get a shell of the bay or Time Tunnel!
As i waited for the bus i remembered my mate sluggy had a beetle shell on his old Sandmaster ST nitro thingy. So i gave him a ring 'yeh i still got it man, I must have been well drunk when i painted it' (he's right we were both well out of it!) LOL!
So i offered him a pint for the shell and the deal was done!
The shell was knackered not physically by damage (sluggys a very good driver!) but the paint was horrid! The top was purple, sides were a luminous green and the windows were yellow!
I managed to get most of the paint off (using some nitro fuel) but there is still lots of little bits (and the side windows) that just wont come of no matter how hard i try :(
I repainted the sides blue (with some paint i had left over from my Thundershot) and the top white (also from the Thundershot) I painted the front and back windows black but i had no idea what to do with those yellow side windows! i used some of the stickers from the hopper kit and some i had lying around to cover up the old paint marks. I also managed to sorce some light decals and a wing from the bay! In the end i used some black electrical tape to cover up the side windows and, from a distance they dont look too bad!
The car has:
Fully ballraced
L.R.P GT3 Turbo 17x2 (with hornet pinion)
Ripmax no limit ESC
cheapie GWS servo
futaba 40mhz receiver
homemade rear aerial mount (so i dont have to drill any more holes!)
Trickbits small bodymounts
I also shortened a spare bumper i had lying about!
Thanks for looking!
