**PLEASE READ THIS** for anyone looking at this model displayed in my showroom and wondering if I will sell it? PLEASE DON’T ASK!!! I get numerous requests from TC members wanting to buy cars displayed in my Tamiyaclub showroom, and to be honest I get very annoyed when people ask to buy something that is clearly NOT FOR SALE!! This car is part of MY COLLECTION and as such I want to KEEP IT!! So please don’t Email on the off chance that I might sell it to you, if I want to sell any of my cars I will put them up for sale in my TRADE ROOM, so look there to see what cars I am prepared to sell otherwise don’t bother asking cos the only answer you will get is NO!!! thanks for reading this disclaimer. Regards wldnas.

Yet more old MIB cars have arrived from Mr Wessels and this is one of them, like the Monogram Lightning this car also utilises the same Yonezawa based running gear, but the Tidal Wave is a bit special, it has more in common with the Thunder in that it shares the same half pipe body design, but that is were the similarity ends, the Tidal Wave is the Super Deluxe car and comes with some hop-up.

First thing you notice is that the body is chrome plated and mirror finish shiny, it has a totally different decal set to the Thunder and also for some reason the kit came supplied with a small pot of Monogram/Humbrol chrome finish paint and a small brush which I assume you are meant to paint the wheels silver with?

The kit itself is very similar to the other Monogram 2WD’s and as well as the batteries and charger being supplied it came with some small bags containing the Hop-up parts which for this kit include an anodised blue fully adjustable rear mono-shock unit and a bottle of shock oil, a set of adjustable front steering tie rods, and 4 ball races for fitting to the front wheels, of course the original standard kit parts were also still supplied and I had to rob one of the original fixed tie rods to use on the Lightning when I built it cos that part was missing from that kit.

My first look over the kit box were not good, the decal sheet appeared to be missing but I later found it stuck to the inside of the box top, the parts bag containing the Steering rod hop-up set had burst open and scattered it contents all over the insides of the box, but as the box was still sealed in cellophane when I got it, I was able to retrieve all the errant parts, the tires had gone out of shape where they had been stuffed in the hole in the box, and there was some suspicious mess around the small box that contained the 10 Duracell AA batteries which had been in there since 1987.

I carefully removed the box and emptied out the contents onto some paper, and sure enough 4 of the 10 batteries had started to leak, so I quickly and carefully disposed of them and checked the remainders with my multimeter and they seemed OK showing 1.53V apiece, the small paint pot had also leaked out some form of resin that had set round the rim of the pot, so I cleaned off what I could and placed it back in the box.

As I had all 3 cars kits together I took the opportunity to take a few pictures of the collection for tomorrow I will sell the Black Thunder kit to Richard as he was the person I bought it for, as the Tidal Wave is so similar to the Lightning I decided to build and run only one of the cars and keep the other one as a MIB, with this kit being the fancier and more expensive of the two, I decided it will stay as a MIB for the time being, I have since built and run the Lightning so for a more in depth look into the plus and minus sides of these Monogram/Yonezawa kits I suggest you read my description for that kit instead.

The reason I bought this car was simply for novelty value alone, it looked interesting and rare and was going for a ridiculously cheap price, so I figured “What the Heck” ;)

It comes in a very pretty blue box. All the parts are carefully bagged up. When laid out you can see all the componants. Leaky Duracells no serprise after 16 years in box. All together for a family photo.

Odd Ball Buggies Qualification: This car is quite RARE and is from a manufacturer who did not make many different models, its also a CLONE of a car made by a little known Japanese toy firm Yonezawa.
