You´re right ! It is a GREAT looking BTCC car and Tamiya model ! But as a Swede and estate driver I would rather seen the earlier Estae version. I live 10 minutes from the Volvo Museum all these race cars are displayed. Would give almost anything to take a spin in one of them. ( Bet they´re a tad faster than my -91 245 ) B~) Olle
Lookin forward to it ! I know that there was a estate body from some manufacturer but I always thought it looked out of proportion,at least on pictures, never saw it 'live' ???
My cousin used to be Ricards team mate at the Volvo BTCC setup - Kelvin Burt. I also used to have the Tamiya 850, also had the V40/S40 shell too. Bought it second hand on a full carbon TA03 conversion.I really regret selling that car ! Kelvin moved on to GT racing in Japan with Toyota after the BTCC - then came back to the UK and won the British GTO champ with a Porsche.
wow Burt is your cousin!! i remember watching him nail the volvo sideways into the armco at i think it was oulton park mid 90's seem to remember it put him out for a few races too!!
You're right, it was Olton Park - I was there, stood at the bottom of the hill, so I saw it in all its glory - That was a major impact - even made it onto one of those Crash and Burn videos ! Didn't just put him out for a few races - it left him in a coma for three weeks - Took him ages to build his confidence back up in again. Still, since then he has not done too bad , as I said, British GTO champion a couple of years ago with Dario Franchitti's brother ( I think ! ), did some GT for Toyota in the far east and was also one of the develpoment test drivers for the Toyota F1 team during the year before they entered the F1 proper. He has also competed at the LeMans 24hr three years ago in a Ferrari 355 - his team mate stuck it into the wall during the last hour of the race. I beleive he had also been competing in the European GT champs in the same Ferrari - or so I am told. He's been keeping busy, but, I no longer have much contact with that section of the family so I only find out whats on the tv these days.
