Man, this took ages...First I had to find some RL pics of Johnny Herbert's race overall...very difficult. I found them watching several vids (Youtube) to get the colors right. I also found some pics of the car's cockpit. It has changed over the years so I had to get the exact lay-out of the 1991 LeMans car.
About the build: the cockpit was painted matt black and when the paint was still wett, I pressed a fine mesh into the paint which gives it it's 'carbon' look (drybrushed it to highlight the structure). The instuments are made of home made decals (the original Tamiya decals are analog, very not suitable). The rest is painted according to the RL pics. I also added a movable visor which I connected with needles to the helmet. I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

With flash... Johnny is pretty tired (like IRL back then...) Seatbelt painted matt... Real cockpit... The digital dash... Bertrand gives the wheel to Johnny... Race overall of Johnny Herbert...

Many, many thx for your support!!! Ok, I'll have to answer some questions. @Oldsteroli: no airbrush, only the helmet is spray painted, @bfst24: cockpit is a Tamiya cockpit (#50460), @Mark: no , @Tamiyabigstuff : about two weeks, @RENKEN 2000: yes, I work...when I have time... @ Lonestar: Indeed, that was the idea...I'll contact Paul when I have taken pics of the whole car. @All: I'll update when the weather allows me to take decent pics, it's still raining over here...

Tamland67

31-Jan-2008

DeeMiller

31-Jan-2008

This may sound strange to you but I have a long way to go before I'm truly satisfied...it can be done even better...that's my goal. I've seen so much better work and I'm just starting so this is indeed another notch but I'm still not there (you have to have goals, right?). Thx for your neverending support, appreciate it very much!!!

Hi Dee, I think your 'art' will put a smile on Mr Headhocho Tamiya's face. I personally appreciate Tamiya's precision moldings moreso after U after touched it with your deft brush strokes ! Darn I love those racing gloves... LOL

DeeMiller

I remember seeing the pictures sent by Dee when this was in project. I never expected the result to be so amazing. I just wish I had sold my cockpit to be a part of this. Feel really guilty now.
