I got this Baja Champ from eBay - it was a bargain.
For less than £40 including postage costs, I got the buggy with an ESC and steering servo, a transmitter and receiver, two battery packs, and a mains/12v charger.

The only thing wrong with it - was the body, which was dented and split - but worst of all, the paint had been applied to the OUTSIDE of the lexan shell - before the decals were applied.

I fitted 24 ballraces and a pair of anti-roll bars to the buggy - and oil-filled shock absorbers. I also a fitted a new 17-turn open-ended motor, and made adjustable upper rear suspension arms. Those at the front are from an Academy Griffin !

I have played with the buggy for around two years - with a cheap Stadium Raider-type body and monster-sized wheels...

I decided at the weekend to try to restore the bodyshell and re-fit buggy wheels and tyres.

After hours' of cleaning, the body was clear again - but is full of creases and 'cloudy' areas from abuse.

I have therefore decided to make a body of my own - from styrene sheet.
This is the first. I shall be making a few others...

The bare Baja champ TL-01B chassis I made a paper template to fit 'perfectly'... ...then transfered the shape to 30-thou plastic. I copied exactly the Champ's rear wing... ...and made a roof, too. To cover the rectangular hole for the chassis, I made an air intake, then added internal bracing from styrene strips glued on in various directions. I made the 'nose' round, then bulged the area where the bevel gear is... It fits...! Next, I will add the roof...

Cool! That body looks like my tin body I made for my frog! The front end looks scarily the same!

There's not much that can be done at the front end without moulding... and I wanted to keep things simple with this first attempt.

Making a body for the average car is hard, but a good looking body to fit the Baja Champ? That is impressive, the body looks really neat so far.

NO car is too nice to run, Ollie !

I'm having a think about wheels...

Those are black Dark Impact wheels - and I can't help thinking I need to paint the new body black ( or a dark colour ) to match.

A Stealth Baja...?
