When I was 14 years old, I saved all the money from my paper round so I could get a Tamiya Monster Beetle, which I'd been drooling over in Tamiya's catalogue for months. Instead, I walked into the model shop, saw the photos on it's box and fell in love with this monster truck. Looking back from 2008, although a small part of me wishes I'd bought the Monster Beetle, I can remember how common they were when I was younger. This car got people's attention and was so rare in the UK that I didn't see another one in the flesh until 3 years ago.
The Corvette has a rather basic spec (no ballraces, terrible stock motor) and the Beetle is more collectable, however in my opinion this is the best looking monster truck ever made and I love it :-)

Excellent addition to the Club ! Another favourite classic is the Kyosho Big Brute too .

You know, if it would have happened to me, I would have picked the Vette over the MB too. I think it is awesome looking and thanks for sharing it. Besides, you can find an MB on eBay almost every day of the week, how many of these do you see on eBay???

The last time I saw a Hi-Rider Vette run was about 16 years ago!! I almost bought one but I could not make up my mind between the Vette or Double Dare.. This one is a nice example.. Thanks for sharing..

I can understand the attachment to your first real RC as mine was the Striker. Piece of junk, but after selling all most all my vintage stuff, it still sets on my shelf as it reminds me of those times. I bash it just like I did back then too. I had the Brute which is very simular to this, but the Corvettes are much more rare now, and I think even then! Very nice !!!!!

My best friend had one when i was about that age, I really liked driving it when he let me, I'm glad to see one in such nice shape still.

Great truck. Of all the Kyosho monsters, this one had the best and most detailed body. I have two Double Dares myself. I'm wishing I had purchased the Thorp drive axles back in the day, as the plastic axles do tend to wear. I should have stocked up back in the day, because parts for these trucks are VERY hard to find now. You can always get a Monster Beetle, but these Kyosho trucks are a lot harder to find, especially in A1 condition. The engine detail is the best.

I've always liked the body of this one, and the chrome engine is just fantastic. I was not a fan of the chassis, I thought it was a bit noisy but I do remember it was a great runner. And I also think the box paintscheme in blue/red/white + stars was a total winner. It certainly is is the league of the legendary RC monster trucks of the late 80's.

Agree! Mine is very noisy. I ballraced this one as the standard kit runs on plastic bearings and the gearbox hardly turned round out of the box. Didn't make much difference. Then played with shimming all the gears - bit better but still not great.
