Modern RC's are fun, but Vintage RC's a cooler!
Especially when modified with vintage parts.
I restored this monster beetle to full running order in 2006. I rebuilt it to stock spec, with the addition of ball bearings. It was a very nice shape, just dirty and badly painted. I stripped and repainted the shell, cleaned and rebuilt the chassis, using a few new bits to replace worn parts. (see link below for more)
I then set about finding some hop ups for it, and this is how it looks today!
The bug is fitted with the following from Team CRP:
Rear shock mounts.
Rear swing arm mounts and gearbox pivot bushing
Differential bearing supports
Body post supports
Front shock tower brace
From CRM - Molded Nylon hex drive shafts.
Power comes from an Mtroniks Purple Heat motor with internal cooling fan.
The front and rear shocks are mounted using nuts and bolts rather than self tapper screws. The rear body posts are also modified to allow the installation of the CRP braces. The wheels are monster beetle, with the gold removed using the dishwasher! :D
This little bug is a blast to drive, with every hop up making it just that little bit better! The chassis bracing has made it nice and rigid, and the diff bearing supports have certainly improved the differential. The rear suspension mounts also greatly improve the durability of the chassis.
So, it's slowly comming together. Next items on the shopping list are CRP steering knuckles and rear wheel mounts (both also molded in yellow to keep the theme going!), steering rod upgrades, parma front bumper and the illusive Thorp Dirt Burner gears!
Thanks for looking :-)

How are the dogbones fairing??? I have a pair that I have debated about installing in mine. Looks like you beat me to the punch on all the upgrades. I wonder if you have the little battery pull tab though??

Hey crash cramer. I've only given the new dog bones 1/2 hours run time so far, but the drive was very smooth. I can't see them waring out quickly, as they fit the cups with no slop at all. Everything I've got is installed, i forgot about the battery tab - I need one of those then too

That front hex part is very interesting. Maybe van make some detail pics of it? And also from the parts?
