A genuine collectors piece of history, one of the proudest parts of my collection
When I first saw this item on eBay (it is a recent purchase) I knew I had to have it. It is one of those rare things - that collectors rarely get the chance to own. I have hundreds of NIB models and have had thousands of kits over the years, but this ranks up amongst the most exciting I have ever owned. Why? Considering the number of these made and the relative simplicity, you might think I have gone simple myself.
An insight into my thinking? Quite simply, I haven't ever seen a better English example in terms on condition, but it doesn't stop there. I know from speaking with the owner that they are the original owners from new, non smokers and that the kit has been stored properly for 31 years. Furthermore around the time of purchase, they bought the newpaper (photo included) that included the advert that made them want to buy this model. This is source and provenance, with one careful owner. It didn't matter how cheap I can get a 934 kit from Japan, I knew I would pay 'nuclear' to win this. So I bid and I bid huge, but it wasn't necessary - the item was won for a very reasonable price.
I won also (sent under separate cover, but from the same auction) the original MRC radio set (also new, boxed and unused - it will be added soon). I also like to buy kits that have some colourful history, but from a collector's point of view, it doesn't get much better than this. I have included photos of the original newspaper advert as well for interest. The newspaper is dated October 1977. The blister packs are mint, undented and perfectly attached with no glue loss or other damage. The contents are complete and there is no reason I can possibly think of that I would ever need to sell this model, so please don't ask me to!
Comments, as always, welcome!
It doesn't get better than this for me - I am very happy indeed! Pictures of the radio will follow soon.
The white bodied version (which I also own a couple of) was the first production run, but this is one from the first year of production. I personally prefer the green body.
