A few pictures from todays bash of my Dakar support truck. It ran very well and the unlocking of the diffs was more a benefit in stability and steering than compared to locked front and rear diffs it used to have. Comments and questions as ever welcome. Cheers for looking Ryck
Cheers Scollins and Joel, I am planning to change it a little to have the same colour scheme as my Schlesser buggy with ford power and the calsonic blue colours tho leaving the cab yellow as it works well.
@Mrfbehn4th Well all diffs locked at the turning circle espically at low speed is rubbish, more of a crab than a turn. Same really with only the rear diff locked, Now with both the front and rear diffs unlocked it is much better at corners tho can loose traction much easier when its slow speed and rutted, Still far from uncapable! Its now a much more rounded machine that is in many ways more fun to drive.
@ Blacque Jacque the angle for the rear one is a little nasty but it runs fine. To angle the diff would need a change of the leaf springs etc and would i think not yield any benefit as there is no real problem at present. The reason why I am having to run such shafts is that the gearbox is 20mm back to get it up inside the cab and lift it some 60mm from the floor.
Holy Truck! What a stunning piece of kit! I moved the gearbox (along not up) in my 6x6 to improve extreme drive shaft angles and now they spin fine. Did you fit saddle packs inbetween the rails? There should be more heavy metal! Excellent rig! Happy trails!
Cheers for more comments Guys . She performs very well on sand the only problem coming when you have to do more crawling style objects where the unlocked diffs will un load but other than that its near Perfect. I removed the shift gate last time out to be able to shift on the fly and its really made the difference! @dinodog yes the saddle pack is sat in the rear tho on not in the chassis rails. I do need to try and lower it I think but that would mean to redo the rear braces. Still there is a fair amount more work to do on this thing espically upfront on the cab.
I like your build mate but I have said that before in the forum I like how you go into detail about the build I have plans for a Dakar support vehicle too your truck inspires me keep up the good work catch ya in the forum
Very good looking truck, I like the rough building style, It really is unique. Well done (although you have got it for quite some time, seen it before, still getting better)
Cheers CASE1, It needs some tidying up now as the mechanicals are working pretty well now Its also going to get some lights and a respray as the support of my 2wd Dakar car
