Right place at the right time!
I use to build a few display models for my local hobby shop back in the 90's and one day I mentioned how much I loved this car. He said hold on a moment and came back with this. Unbuilt, but the box had no lid, and the manual was missing. He said he would not have time play with it, but wanted it to go to a good home, so he game it to me for $100.
I lovingly built it, far too quickly as it happened. I rummaged through my paint draw and found I had all the paint I needed, so away I went. Unfortunately not noticing until it was too late the the tin of PS4 I thought I had, was actually TS something else! You all probably heard the profanities.
The offending blue has slowly peeled in places, but remained stuck fast elsewhere. I have not been brave enough to try and remove it yet. Any advice on removing TS from PC would be greatly appreciated!
I also discovered on the day I took this photo that my 19 month old daughter (see shots 2 and 3 below!) seems to like Tamiya's, or Porsches, or shiny things with wheels!

What a shame! Looks killer though

A very nice find. I would recommend doing a search on the forum. Plenty of discussion on 'how-to remove paint'. When you strip the paint off this body, be careful as the lexan is very thin and brittle in some places. It's doable - take a look in my showroom where I have one I stripped and repaired the cracks and damage using new pieces/sections of lexan.

That's simply an amazing find! And as for the paint, I heard Nitro fuel doesn't damage your shell and should remove PS, so maybe also try it on TS? (If you have any left over pieces of lexan from cutting out the body, try various materials on that to see if it affects the lexan).

I have just used Acetone FREE nail polish remover to strip my subaru shell, it worked well and didn't harm the lexan at all. But please test a bit on something not valuble before going for it

Nice 959, Cristian! Never thought of painting the wheels gold, looks ace!

Nice find. At $100, that's a steal.

The kid has good taste LOL. I think the TS paint can be removed by Tamiya brand Lacquer Thinner (?) since the paint is a Synthetic Lacquer. Test on scrap first! Wish someone would properly repro. the body for the fans! We need runners! Cheers, Alistair G. (Live_Steam_Mad)

WOW, you paid the same amount I paid in 1990 when I stumbled across the hobby shop's display built car. It need the R parts, but that was resolved. The body they had on it didn't even compare to this one in killer looks. PLEASE BE CAREFUL with THIS lexan shell and test EVERYTHING on scraps from THIS SHELL so you don't ruin it. This was one of Tamiya's FIRST Lexan shells with many curves and well, they may have used a weird concoction of polycarbonate mixtures. There was a post either in a forum or elsewhere here about THESE shells and their prone to cracking IN THE BOX. @ Live Steam Mad, what is your opinion on the Kamtech reproduction bodies????? Good, Bad, not known???? What we could use is very good reproduction decals. HEY STICKERBOD, help us out. Love the fun your daughter is having with your car.

Nice story up to the part about wrong paint. I just went through the same thing with my SX4. The only difference is that I thought I was using the right paint. I'm still learning obviously.
