September 2008: I bought a WW2 kit for the chassis primarily (as initally the cartoon nature of the WW2 didn't really appeal...) however, having seen the other Willys on TC and especially Fabrizio's fantastic painting 'how to' section, I thought I'd give it a go to while away these wet afternoons we seem to be having!

This is my first proper attempt at model painting, and I tried to use many of the techniques that Fabrizio discribes - especialy for the skin tones and the wash over the main body colour. I used a mix of acrylic and enamel paints, plus car spray on the boots gloves and helmet - in future I'll stick with acrylic I think as it is hard to get a successful wash over spray paint and enamel.

My friend Julie also has a WW2 kit, but didn't have the patience to paint the driver, so I've done this one for her (she chose the helmet design) and will paint mine for a future project... Jx

base coat for body and face more detail stripes difficult to mask wash over body to give definition subtile skin tones fitting behind the wheel just needs lacquer and stickers now... wheel and gear levers painted too lacquered and stickered! all he needs now is some wheels!

If you liked those pictures, you should see these...

Many thanks guys... I'm glad you like him! Just brought him in from the garage - he's lacquered and stickered now! (need to get the heat gun on those stickers to smooth them down though...)

Aw, thanks Toykid - I recognized your avatar immediately as yours is my favorite Class-5 Scorcher of all - a total inspiration! I saw this Willy the other day (stop sniggering) - my friend has him in her WW2 on the bookshelf in their house, he looks great behind the wheel... It's inspired me to get on with my own Willy project now too, although I want to get the Scorcher up and running first...
