Hi, here with a description of what I did to my Pajero XC to improve it's crawling capabilities. Some ideas might have been seen before but I'll go through it all anyway.

First the shocks:

I wanted to extend them so I used some of the fittings that you find in PC's to fit motherboards to the PC case (and longer plastic ball ends, only required at the back). The oil inside is the thinner Tamiya orange one instead of the yellow supplied with the kit.

2: the front setup

In order to get the front suspension to travel down as far as possible I had to grind the front uprights just a bit as you can see in the red circles. Just remove the sort of little reinforcement at the bottom, also for steering, more of this later, grind the small plastic stopper in the second circle.

3: the steering

In order to give more steeirng angle and to fit the RC4WD Beadlock wheels (they grind the kingpins with stock uprights) I had to fit TL01 steering knuckles (see picture and caption), they also widened the track by 5mm each side, a good thing.

Then I used this mod to fit ball bearings (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=51383&sid=11170)

Then removed some of the bottom plate covering the steering assembly to get even more ground clearance and to fit a different system on the lower part of the steering. Got rid of the metal bar linking the system and fitted proper rod + ball ends from Kyosho. No more slack in there.

4: Rear axle

Made 2 aluminium brackets to hold the rear shocks and I used some solid links with RC4WD Aluminium ball ends and con washers (important as otherwise you will not get enough articulation) Also I used some wide hexagons as you find in the WW2 kit or many others to get the same width as the front.

That's more like it, looks and performs as it should - now fit for more than just a trip to the supermarket and dropping the kids at school.
