I've got four of these but decided to build a Hilux runner, so all the worst condition parts and some repros have been combined to make this. The chassis has had some extra holes drilled in places and the driver, headlights, steering wheel and window are repro parts. To improve the 'driving experience' I've replaced the springs with modified (i.e. bent a bit to make them longer and softer) Jugg ones, the tyres with F350 and used a Tamiya TEU 302BK speed controller - nothing too drastic and all the original parts are stored just in case. Driveability and suspension travel are much improved.

I'm always amazed at how the bodies turn out, it looked dreadful but strip, paint and some TC repro decals make it look almost too good to use !! I need a front number plate and didn't fill every last scratch and mark because there will be others soon :-)

All in all very pleased - on to another Blazer now .....

That looks very nice, would like to see more of the suspension mod. Had my Blazer out yesterday OK at very slow speeds but anything else Bounce Boing Bounce

Nice work! Are you using tire inserts? Now, if I only could find the time to restore mine to its former glory...

Thanks guys. @hedge the suspension is simple and more than doubles the articulation. A set of Bruiser springs would probably do much the same but I had the Juggs so used them (so to speak!) I had to basically bend them to increase the length then twist out the leaves and tune each one to get the right height and stiffness - and make sure they are all the same. No shocks on yet but thinking about it.

@ Moulton, yes the inserts are in there and fit well. Because the tyres are larger diameter than the originals they give a lot more so you get a better footprint and don't feel solid like the originals. I guess you could use sponge inserts as well but haven't tried it - yet !

Thanks to all, I'm glad you like it. The body took some getting round but I love the detail on this version of the Hilux, worth the time. A real Tamiya masterpiece.

Nice one Roger. Looks really nice. I would imagine the hilift tyres alone would help handling Love running mine but its just like thing on a spring boing boing boing. Would never part with it though
