Dyna done! Phew
Finally completed this car.
Always wanted one of these. Settled for this used beast from ebay in January 2009. I think the price was reasonable (then again, I had to have it so it didnt matter :-p) it was something upwards of $150, less than $200.
Didn't want a NIB and have to wonder about how it runs. Wanted to restore this to health then take it for a spin....
The seller had it listed as the original but its a Re-Re. Thats ok. I can live with that.
I completely disassembled it, and was pretty shocked how much abuse this car had taken...Thrashed to near death...I think I got ripped off.
However, figured it would be a fun project to bring it back to life (if not expensive).
I tried to remove the paint from the Lexan body but it pretty much fell to peices and was in really bad shape. The wing was sorta twisted and had a hole where the mount went in. Cost of the new body was about $60 from a nice gent in the UK. It came with the wing and Decals.
I re-built the car with a few new parts (specifically Parts-E and Pressed Parts Bag (from Japan, $40 shipped).
Put a radio and ESC in it. It drives nice but the Motor was toast (sounded terrible) Took the motor apart and armature was wrecked, brushes were about 1mm.
Ordered a new Pink motor from jr-rc for just $27 (shipped).
Put a random Trinity motor in it whilst I waited a week for the pink motor to come. I really like to drive this car. Very different experience from the Traxxas cars and trucks I have.
Crash-Cramer sent me a new pair of front tires for it (thanks Chris!). Got a rear pair from the bay (vellrip I think), Part 53093, about $12 shipped.
.
Added the new acto pink (ran it it on a C-cell for 10mins). Added new tires front and back. Had to get old tires off rims as they were glued on. Used the boiling technique which worked like a champ!!!
Finshed the body. It was a little stressful as i messed up a couple of things with the paint and hence had to account for that with the white decals on the sides of the body. Also I blacked out the windows as i messed up the paint on the inside. It was stressful as I knew getting another body/decals would be difficult, and expensive :-p
So its finally complete. Will be an occasional runner. Like an old lady going for a drive in her old Datsun Cherry on a Sunday...
Included are some pics of how it looked in the beginning.
Total cost of this car + restore, for people who wanna know, $175 car, $60 body, $27 motor, $12 tires, $40 parts, $10 paint = About $324.
Ok. onto the next project I guess....
