Well this is it. And boy, am I pleased with the results. What started off life as a tired old touring car has been transformed into what you see below. 19t Motor, Mtroniks RV11 ESC, GPM 75mm shocks, full ballraced, converted to a TL01B, HPI SS 5 Star chrome wheels, Proline Dirt Hawg tyres, and all topped off with an HPI AAR '70 Cuda body shell.
Absolutely delighted with the results, hope you all like it too! If you have a look at the link at the bottom of the pics.. 'TL01 being converted to Monster Truck', you'll see the 'before' pics and a few stages of the conversion.
Now with 1.9 scale look wheels and Rock Creepers

That looks great. Was looking forward to see this in the flesh. How about a naked shot of the chassis and suspension setup, if you don't mind. Some terrifying ground clearance you got there. Did you use wideners on the wheels or did the HPI wheels just fit right in?
SteelRat
Thanks Henk! Got some naked photos for you (and there's something I never thought I'd say to another fella). The HPI wheels slot straight on to the existing axles, and my fears about them not quite being long enough were unfounded because the wheels are quite deep. Had to trim the steel threaded steering rod this morning to get the front toe right, just can't wait to run it now!

A very nice looking Cuda

Wow..... thats a big and good looking monster. What kind of chassis do you have under it! I agree wich Henk! Great looking model!
SteelRat
Thanks Def! It's a TL01.. originally a touring car (if you have a look at the TL01 mk1 Escort elsewhere in the show room, you'll see the 'before' pics).

Thanks for the pics. Truly a beasty Cuda. You've inspired me to do more TL based trucks. They are so cheap these days.
SteelRat
Yeah. I was thinking the other day too that given that I've replaced pretty well all the bits on this chassis, all I need is a gearbox, drive shaft and main chassis and I could build another one with the old bits!

Sweet mate! That's a nice looking Cuda!

Ive an old tlo1 knocking around this has inspired me great job

Heh thanks. I've replaced the 19t motor with a Tamiya BZ 23t. Goes MUCH better because I think the 19t was a low torque on-road ex compo motor that I picked up from the 'bay. That and the slightly lower gearing with the 1.9' wheels gives the car much more wheelspin tail out goodness that you'd expect from a 70s muscle car! (especially since I've converted it to 2WD)

The Cuda shell really sets it off I will stick this in my faves and revert back to it when I find the T01 cheers

Awesome truck there mate. Perfect offset for the Cuda body! Lovin' the colour too.
