This is the third and final installment/posting of this incredibly rare 1981 Ishimasa/Kyosho buggy. To briefly recap I found this plastic framed nitro buggy on ebay Australia. Its made by Ishimasa which
is a name that Kyosho was also sold under in Europe, though its a pretty uncommon one that you don't see that often. I'm often conflicted with wether to build my older buggies, but I do know that I'm not in this hobby just to hold onto a car for twenty years just to make a couple hundred bucks profit at the end of it. I cant remember the member who said - 'that an unbuilt vintage kit is just an expensive Box' which is the saying I use to justify breaking the seal on an old kit like this. Don't get me wrong, I have several NIB vintage kits that I have no intention of building and like them the way they are un touched.

The first step in building this was to source a vintage NIB motor. The manual states a size of 09 - 11 and recommends either an OS 10FSR, Enya or Fuji engine can be used. I'm still pretty green and naive when it comes to nitro motors so I ended up buying the incorrect motor three times before finally getting it right which took me well over a year to find.

Firstly I brought an OS Max 10 off of a local trading site. When I finally installed it, it was too small and was also a C/L (control line motor) as in has no carburattor for throttle control.

I then thought I'd buy an OS max 15 as I wasn't actually going to run the car so too much power wouldn't be a problem. It was too big.

Its important to note that I would search Ebay and local trading sites every day for all three potential engines.
Finally I came across a NIB OS Max10 FSR just like the one used in the picture on the box. Unfortunately when it arrived it was actually an OS Max 10 FSR-S which was also released in 1976 but....was a control line motor with no carb!!.. 'Bugger'.

It was about three months after that, that I came across a NIB Fuji 099 engine on Ebay USA. I had almost not bothered to enter that engine in my daily search, as even badly used ones were seldom seen. Well I made sure that i won the action and eagerly awaited the motors arrival. After 5 weeks there was no motor and I emailed the seller. He replied that it must have been lost but not to worry as it was insured!!. There was nothing I could do, it wasn't like it was the sellers fault. Fortunately about two weeks later the motor got returned to seller after being sent back from New Zealand customs.
The problem was that the seller had ticked merchandise but sent the motor as a gift, so lessen learned the motor was resent and two weeks later landed here safely in my hands.

I spent all of last night putting the kit together and loved every minute of it. Instead of the traditional 20 page instructions with diagrams, there is 6 paragraphs, an exploded diagram and five other smaller diagrams. I had to use the force at one stage.

Thanks for viewing and especially if you took the time to read my adventure.

Hi Dave, This is a blast from the past!! I had a Red Ranger 11 as my first nitro model back in the day. My hand still hurts all these years later from that starting handle LOL. A great model, well done, cheers Ian
