I remember as a little kid in the late 70's in Orange in Country NSW in Oz. My father would take me to the local Toyworld every Saturday morning & I would always spend all my time looking at the Sand Scorcher on the top shelf.
Now, my father being a vw nut, I don't know why he never got one.
30 years later, I know have a son of my own & i built him this Sand Scorcher from bits. It's on a custom alloy chassis, to get the wheel base correct, as I always thought that it was too long for the vw body. White monster beetle shell, painted box art, sports tuned & a cutom made 4200 hump back battery. My son loves it.
Earlier this year we took it on holidays with us to Tweed Heads, we put over 12 battery packs through it & never had a problem! my most reliable car is the oldest we have on the shelf!
My son was 8 when he took these pics.
My scorcher will be finished shortly.
hope u like the pics

My favourite pic!

Great Scott! Some pretty good camera work there. Pic 2 looks as if the driver is trying to rip it back onto terra firma. Incredible action shot that. I'll 101 that one for sure.

I love the shortened chassis, it makes the buggy look more ‘podgy’, which is how the car looks on front of the box and how I remember it as a kid.
I know someone requested this earlier, but any chance of some chassis pics please? Even better… a ‘how to’ on making a shorter chassis for us mere mortals..
Cheers, Paul
